Friday Favorites

I actually have quite a few Friday Favorites this week. Another reason I do this each week is that it ends up being an easy way to recap a few of our favorite things about the week to look back at later should we wish. This week was apparently just more fun than some of our other recent weeks. So... let's get started shall we?

I have to start this week's Friday Favorites with these two goobers. They got to have their first real Daddy/Daughter Date this week. Monday I had a meeting for work so Daddy picked up Kenzie at my office (it is easier to meet there as it is half way between our house and his office) and off they went to Kenzie's current favorite restaurant, McDonalds. Yeah, I know it's not the healthiest option, but the kid loves it so it is a nice treat for her at times. Don't worry. We don't feed it to her often. Anyway, the both had the same thing apparently. Chicken nuggets and fries (Kenzie also had yogurt and milk just to balance out some of the bad stuff). I bet they were a sight to see though. Kenzie talked all about her date the next day. She told me she rode in Daddy's truck and had McDonalds with him. It was quite adorable. I hope they make this a semi-regular thing (though maybe not always at McDonalds).

This is random but I had to include this thing this week because I was using it and thought about how much I L-O-V-E this thing. It is called an onion keeper or something like that. Nothing special really, but I so prefer it to using a ziploc to store onions. There are also ones out there that keep things like green peppers, tomatoes, etc. fresher. I plan to look into those as well.

Curls! I seriously cannot get over how adorable this kid is. She just woke up like this. How I wish I woke up with curls that adorable every morning. I end up with my hair looking like Diana Ross stuck her finger in a light socket. I ended up combing them out because she had a lot of knots and immediately regretted it. I've decided that next time it looks this adorable when she wakes up... she is keeping her knots for the day because this is just too much cuteness to ruin.

Speaking of cuteness... this. 2 is seriously the most adorable age ever. I can deal with the random temper tantrums and the kid that has the biggest independent streak ever because everything else is so adorable with her right now. The hugs, kisses, cute things she says, the random dancing, everything. I am loving this age (though I wouldn't always tell you that). The kid keeps me on my toes, that's for sure.

College football is back! We celebrated last night by settling in with dinner in front of the TV (something we NEVER do) and watching the Texas A&M at South Carolina game. Kenzie was super excited with the "football game" and the people getting all excited before the teams ran out on to the field. Our budding football fanatic. I like professional football and the preseason has kept us busy a bit... but if I had to choose one over the other, I would take college football any day of the week. I think the tradition of it all and the excitement of the fans is contagious. Can't wait to cheer on my Knights tomorrow as they take on Penn State in IRELAND! Only downfall... the game starts at 8:30 a.m. Plus for everyone else? Bloody Marys. Guess I will just stick to my decaf iced coffee and get ready for UCF touchdowns!!!

I made my second freezer meal this week. This one was done a bit differently. First of all, I have to thank my sis-in-law for turning me on to this recipe from Rachel Ray. It is seriously awesome! I skip the garlic toast floaters and adding arugula. I also switch out the regular sausage for smoked sausage or kielbasa. Unlike last week's recipe, this one had to be cooked first. The plus to this one is that after you freeze it, it changes from a "stoup" (meaning it is like a super thick soup but isn't technically a stew) to more of a pasta dish. It just makes me think of fall so it will be perfect in October after Will is here. I haven't made it yet, but plan to get it done tonight. We had a bit of a rough night last night with Kenzie so I am just to tired to tackle it myself today, alone. I am hoping to get a bit of help from Steven tonight. Can't wait to do a taste test later though. =)

So, do you have any Friday Favorites? Any special moments you want to make sure to document?

Welcome Back to Your Regularly Scheduled Programming

It's almost time! School is upon us. The kids in our county return on Wednesday. Kenzie's first day of school is next Tuesday. Monday we will have Meet the Teacher during the day and then Tuesday will be her first day of VPK. More on all that in a minute... This week though officially started our return to normalcy. It's about time! Kenzie started back to dance on Monday. The fall season started and she was so excited. She was asking me all day about when it would be time to go to dance. She was just so ready to get back to it. This season/year we have elected to stay with the same teacher she had last year, Ms. Rebekah. Kenzie loved her so it seemed like a great bet when we found out that she was going to be teaching Pre-K 2. This year will be a lot like last year in that they will do ballet, tap, and tumbling but the skills we be more advanced. More "dance language" will be used (though Ms. Rebekah has always focused on giving them proper terminology anyway)...

Eight is Great!

Today Kenzie is EIGHT! It's so crazy. We have an 8 year old. Only two years away from double digits. A third grader. A girl that is quickly becoming a preteen. There is only a year left (technically) until that is officially the stage we are in. Though I have to say... she acts more and more like an actual preteen every day of her life. She's too much. We often joke that she is 8 going on 28, but in all honesty, she is an old soul and often acts much older than her years. At 8-years-old, Kenzie... - Is still the friendliest kid I know. She loves with her whole heart. She hates to hurt anyone's feelings. The downside is that her feelings get hit hard when someone isn't nice to her. We have had to deal with that on occasion, especially in the last year when we had a run in with a girl that Kenzie thought was her friend but she ended up being not really nice to Kenzie in the long run. We learned as parents that the "mean girl" stage starts early. Kenzie...

Goodbye Preschool... Hello Elementary School!

Bear with me... this post is not only about Kenzie's final day at school but all the crazy things (they are just crazy to me because I can't believe that little 7 lbs 6 oz baby is about to be in kindergarten) leading up to it that are preparing her for being a kindergartener so it is a bit long. Aaaaannnnndddd... That's it. We have reached the end of an era for Kenzie. At least the end of a stage of sorts. We have officially left behind the preschool stage and are getting ready to embark on the "school age" section of her life. These last few weeks have been... emotional. About three weeks ago we took our happy selves over to the elementary school and attended the kindergarten orientation for our baby girl. Who isn't actually much of a "baby" anymore despite my protests. We were able to take a tour of the school and see some of the kindergarten classrooms, the specials classrooms, cafeteria, clinic, and media center. The kids were all given t...
