Friday Favorites

I almost forgot about our Friday Favorites post this week. I have been really busy I guess. I honestly have no idea what happened. We had Kenzie's birthday on Wednesday and I guess all the hype over that threw me off a bit. I wish I remembered more often through the week. Part of the reason I decided to start doing these posts weekly is to try to make myself take more pictures of Kenzie and our randomness through the week. I was looking back at old photos and I organize everything by month. When Kenzie was first born, I was so much better at documenting life than I am now that I chase around a toddler all day long. I want to get back in to the swing of things of pulling out my camera, whether it is my Rebel, my point and shoot, or just my iPhone and taking a picture of something we are doing that is fun or just something I want to have a visual reminder of one day.

This week we had quite a few rainstorms. Nothing new. It's Central Florida. Kenzie had her first puddle experience though and she LOVED it. She just stood there stomping in the puddle and laughing hysterically at the water "jumping" up to get her. Seeing things like that through her eyes is such an amazing experience.

Speaking of Kenzie, her favorite toy from her birthday so far seems to be her "doctor bag". The kid is obsessed with taking blood pressure, giving shots, checking ears, checking hearts, and everything else she can come up with. Poor Jack was even caught the other day for a heart check. Maybe we have a budding medical professional in our midst.

Each month we set aside a budget to buy certain things for Will. These are the smaller things like clothes and blankets. Our bigger things are obviously budgeted another way. I figure that we have enough clothes for now. We have no idea how big he will be so I don't want to buy too much too soon so I can make sure we are matching the correct season to size. So, this month I bought my favorite, favorite blankets. Kenzie has a few sets of these but they are all pink so we figured Will needed his own style. They are so soft and light. There are actually even softer, lighter bamboo ones. Kenzie has a set of those too that were a gift and were what initially turned me on to this brand, but they are more expensive and harder to find so we are sticking with the muslin ones. I LOVE these. They are so versatile. They can be used as swaddles, on a floor if you are in a place you don't want your baby directly on the floor of (like maybe a hotel room), as a nursing cover (and that is so great in Florida where it is so hot and most real nursing covers are thicker and make baby too hot... that is all reliant on your kiddo accepting being covered), to cover a car seat when you take a baby into a place and there are likely to be people that want to touch him or her, whatever. They are just awesome. I highly recommend this brand to any new parents.

Pool days that aren't crowded. As summer break nears to an end, the pool is seemingly more and more crowded each day. Sometimes though we get days where there are just one or two other people in the pool when we are there. I love those days.

Welcome Back to Your Regularly Scheduled Programming

It's almost time! School is upon us. The kids in our county return on Wednesday. Kenzie's first day of school is next Tuesday. Monday we will have Meet the Teacher during the day and then Tuesday will be her first day of VPK. More on all that in a minute... This week though officially started our return to normalcy. It's about time! Kenzie started back to dance on Monday. The fall season started and she was so excited. She was asking me all day about when it would be time to go to dance. She was just so ready to get back to it. This season/year we have elected to stay with the same teacher she had last year, Ms. Rebekah. Kenzie loved her so it seemed like a great bet when we found out that she was going to be teaching Pre-K 2. This year will be a lot like last year in that they will do ballet, tap, and tumbling but the skills we be more advanced. More "dance language" will be used (though Ms. Rebekah has always focused on giving them proper terminology anyway)...

Eight is Great!

Today Kenzie is EIGHT! It's so crazy. We have an 8 year old. Only two years away from double digits. A third grader. A girl that is quickly becoming a preteen. There is only a year left (technically) until that is officially the stage we are in. Though I have to say... she acts more and more like an actual preteen every day of her life. She's too much. We often joke that she is 8 going on 28, but in all honesty, she is an old soul and often acts much older than her years. At 8-years-old, Kenzie... - Is still the friendliest kid I know. She loves with her whole heart. She hates to hurt anyone's feelings. The downside is that her feelings get hit hard when someone isn't nice to her. We have had to deal with that on occasion, especially in the last year when we had a run in with a girl that Kenzie thought was her friend but she ended up being not really nice to Kenzie in the long run. We learned as parents that the "mean girl" stage starts early. Kenzie...

Goodbye Preschool... Hello Elementary School!

Bear with me... this post is not only about Kenzie's final day at school but all the crazy things (they are just crazy to me because I can't believe that little 7 lbs 6 oz baby is about to be in kindergarten) leading up to it that are preparing her for being a kindergartener so it is a bit long. Aaaaannnnndddd... That's it. We have reached the end of an era for Kenzie. At least the end of a stage of sorts. We have officially left behind the preschool stage and are getting ready to embark on the "school age" section of her life. These last few weeks have been... emotional. About three weeks ago we took our happy selves over to the elementary school and attended the kindergarten orientation for our baby girl. Who isn't actually much of a "baby" anymore despite my protests. We were able to take a tour of the school and see some of the kindergarten classrooms, the specials classrooms, cafeteria, clinic, and media center. The kids were all given t...
