Happy Half Birthday Smiley Girl!

January 30, 2013 6 Months Old Dear Mackenzie, Happy ½ birthday Smiley Girl! How has it been half a year already since you arrived? Time just seems to fly faster and faster each day. This month was definitely a whirlwind of new experiences for you. After a recommendation from your pediatrician, we elected to start solids shortly after you turned 5 months old. We initially started with rice cereal mixed with breast milk but you were just not having that. We tried that for a few days before we chose to switch it up a bit and go to oatmeal. That was definitely a good choice. You like oatmeal much better. We have tried rice cereal since and you still hated it, so we just won’t do that again. To be honest, rice cereal doesn’t have any nutritional value so I’m not that sad that you didn’t like it. Shortly after you started eating oatmeal, we added in applesauce. You LOVED that. Initially, you only ate in the mornings. Eventually we started adding in a second meal in the evenings when w

Visiting Great Gran-ma

This weekend Grandma and Grandpa came to visit. They were on their way to Palm Coast to check in our their new house and stopped to see us on the way. We know they really only wanted to see Kenzie, but we're used to that now. On Saturday they went with Steven to look at furniture for their new house and Kenzie and I stayed home. We knew that Sunday was going to be a big day and didn't want to disrupt her routine too much two days in a row. Sunday morning we got an early start and went to Crystal River to visit Great Gran-ma (Steven's grandmother). Kenzie slept about half the way there (total of about 45 minutes). We spent some time at the house with Diane while Gran-ma learned some new things on her iPad from Dad Y. Kenzie also got her first experience with a dog other than Jack. She seemed to like Sammy. He is more her size and he was super friendly with her. After visiting for a bit, we met up with Aunt Rosemary, Uncle Brad, Robb, Dante, and their

Blue Springs State Park

With the reinvention of our blog, I am trying to get back into blogging some. Bear with me as I figure out things like, the best way to post pictures and hopefully video posting, as well. This Sunday we took our first ever trip to Blue Springs State Park in Orange City. Our neighbors told us about this park and that during the colder winter months (when it actually gets cold), you can go and see manatees in the springs. We haven't had very much cold weather this season so the manatee numbers have been down lately but with a recent cold snap that lasted for a few days, they all came in to the springs. Our neighbor called on Saturday and the manatee numbers were around 70. They expected with another cold night that the numbers would be in the 90s or so on Sunday. When we arrived on Sunday, the count was 172! The real question that Steven and I had was actually... how on earth do they count those things? Regardless, there were manatee galore. The park is absolutely beautiful! I lo
