Mackenzie

Mackenzie, better known as Kenzie, was born on July 30, 2012 adding one more birthday to our ever expanding list of July birthdays. She came 3 weeks early, through no choice of her own really and has been an amazing child from the moment she was born.

Kenzie is a super happy, friendly, polite little girl. We have decided that if you are ever having a bad day, all you need to do is hang out with Kenzie. She rarely has a bad day and can lift anyone's spirits.

Kenzie is learning to read and it continues to be one of her favorite things to do. The only difference is that now she reads more to us sometimes than we read to her. She is excelling in school, especially in math. She loves working with numbers and building things with legos or doing puzzles.

Kenzie has become quite the artist lately and if you can't find her, the best place to look is in her room at her small table. She is likely to be found coloring.

Eight is Great!

Today Kenzie is EIGHT! It's so crazy. We have an 8 year old. Only two years away from double digits. A third grader. A girl that is quickly becoming a preteen. There is only a year left (technically) until that is officially the stage we are in. Though I have to say... she acts more and more like an actual preteen every day of her life. She's too much. We often joke that she is 8 going on 28, but in all honesty, she is an old soul and often acts much older than her years. At 8-years-old, Kenzie... - Is still the friendliest kid I know. She loves with her whole heart. She hates to hurt anyone's feelings. The downside is that her feelings get hit hard when someone isn't nice to her. We have had to deal with that on occasion, especially in the last year when we had a run in with a girl that Kenzie thought was her friend but she ended up being not really nice to Kenzie in the long run. We learned as parents that the "mean girl" stage starts early. Kenzie...

Welcome Back to Your Regularly Scheduled Programming

It's almost time! School is upon us. The kids in our county return on Wednesday. Kenzie's first day of school is next Tuesday. Monday we will have Meet the Teacher during the day and then Tuesday will be her first day of VPK. More on all that in a minute... This week though officially started our return to normalcy. It's about time! Kenzie started back to dance on Monday. The fall season started and she was so excited. She was asking me all day about when it would be time to go to dance. She was just so ready to get back to it. This season/year we have elected to stay with the same teacher she had last year, Ms. Rebekah. Kenzie loved her so it seemed like a great bet when we found out that she was going to be teaching Pre-K 2. This year will be a lot like last year in that they will do ballet, tap, and tumbling but the skills we be more advanced. More "dance language" will be used (though Ms. Rebekah has always focused on giving them proper terminology anyway)...

Remember When...

Remember when... When we could just drop everything we "should" be doing and instead sit down and binge watch a TV show? When we could wait until 7pm before deciding what we wanted for dinner, then go out somewhere without thinking twice about whether or not we would make it home in time for bedtime? When we spent weeks upon weeks planning the perfect vacation and then actually took it and did most, if not all, of the things we planned to do? I've been doing a lot of thinking the last few days. I'm not entirely sure what sparked it. Perhaps it was the medical test I had last week (that I will spare everyone the details of) that set off a string of events that I'm not looking forward to but are probably necessary. No worries, it wasn't anything major and to tell everyone about it, would be a lot of TMI. No details necessary, but I'm just fine. Maybe it was having the conversation with a friend the other day about how we used to not have a care in th...
