Mackenzie

Mackenzie, better known as Kenzie, was born on July 30, 2012 adding one more birthday to our ever expanding list of July birthdays. She came 3 weeks early, through no choice of her own really and has been an amazing child from the moment she was born.

Kenzie is a super happy, friendly, polite little girl. We have decided that if you are ever having a bad day, all you need to do is hang out with Kenzie. She rarely has a bad day and can lift anyone's spirits.

Kenzie is learning to read and it continues to be one of her favorite things to do. The only difference is that now she reads more to us sometimes than we read to her. She is excelling in school, especially in math. She loves working with numbers and building things with legos or doing puzzles.

Kenzie has become quite the artist lately and if you can't find her, the best place to look is in her room at her small table. She is likely to be found coloring.

Eight is Great!

Today Kenzie is EIGHT! It's so crazy. We have an 8 year old. Only two years away from double digits. A third grader. A girl that is quickly becoming a preteen. There is only a year left (technically) until that is officially the stage we are in. Though I have to say... she acts more and more like an actual preteen every day of her life. She's too much. We often joke that she is 8 going on 28, but in all honesty, she is an old soul and often acts much older than her years. At 8-years-old, Kenzie... - Is still the friendliest kid I know. She loves with her whole heart. She hates to hurt anyone's feelings. The downside is that her feelings get hit hard when someone isn't nice to her. We have had to deal with that on occasion, especially in the last year when we had a run in with a girl that Kenzie thought was her friend but she ended up being not really nice to Kenzie in the long run. We learned as parents that the "mean girl" stage starts early. Kenzie...

Baseball, Birthdays, Picnics and Paintings

Whew! I'm tired. That's nothing unusual though. We had another big weekend. We started our weekly Spring Happenings list on Friday. Initially we planned on doing our Friday plans on Saturday but then Kenzie had a school friend's birthday come up so we decided to make some last minute changes. Friday afternoon Steven came home a bit early and we headed out to UCF to take in a baseball game. We have now hit up football, basketball, and baseball with the kids. They like all sports so far... though Will's first question when we mention a sporting event is always about popcorn. The kid has a popcorn problem. We love watching our kids be able to run around our alma mater's campus. It is just so cool. We love that we get to live close and go back to visit all the time as well as take in various activities and sports on campus. I'm hoping we get them so excited about UCF that they follow in our footsteps one day... though they can choose whatever they want. Except USF...

Kenzie's First Beach Trip

This weekend we took a trip to Treasure Island (on the West coast) for Kenzie's first ever beach trip. Julie and Eric were spending a couple of days out there and we thought it would be fun to go out and hang out with them on the beach. Having the use of a hotel room was also a plus. =) To start, I just need to share that we don't exactly travel light when we go to the beach. We never have. Unfortunately (or fortunately because we are always 100% prepared) we are not the kind of people that just pick up our swimsuits, towels, and go. We always travel as if we are staying all day and do not want to hang out in swimsuits all day. So, adding another person (albeit one that is barely over two feet tall and weighs maybe 20 lbs soaking wet) added that much more stuff to our packing list. We were packed to the brim. We used almost everything we brought over there too. Anyway, we left bright and early in the morning since it was a 2 hour trip to the beach. We got there around 9:30 ...
