A South Florida Day (And a Half)

Last weekend we traveled down to good ole South Florida for about 36 hours. It was a bit of a whirlwind style trip, but we had such a great time that it was worth us to recap it for posterity. We always know we are likely to take a S. Florida trip in early January. Our friends' kiddo is a January baby so we always try to make it down for his birthday party. This year we decided to just stay one night and traveled down on Saturday, the day of his party. We left our house bright and early. As in 6:45am. After picking up some McDonald's breakfast for the road, we were on our way. We made it all the way to Fort Pierce with the kiddos before we had to make a bathroom stop. That was the plan all along so it is always nice when that works out. We were only out of the car for less than 20 minutes then back in for the remainder of the trip down. We set up a movie for the kids to watch and the settled in to watch Descendants 2. Traffic was pretty light so we made it down earlier tha...

Run 4 Love 4 Mile Recap

We returned this year to the Run 4 Love that is part of the Track Shack Running Series. And this year, we brought along the family. Nana came into town on Friday night so she could be there to watch the kids. This time though, we decided that all three of them would come with us and then the kids could run the kids' race after the 4 mile. We got everyone up at the crack of dawn (technically before) and were quickly on our way to Winter Park. Actually, with us moving around, both kids woke up on their own which helps because sometimes Will is a bear if you wake him up instead of letting him do it alone. Kenzie was up early enough to get dressed which helped. Otherwise we would have needed to change both kids when we got there so this was good. The drive there was quick and easy but we noticed immediately how foggy it was. That fog actually hung around for the majority of the run. It was pretty serious that morning.  When we got to the start of the race, we got Will dressed a...

Dining and Dashing - Park Ave 5k Recap

This past weekend Steven and I ran the Park Ave 5k with Track Shack. This is another race in the Track Shack Running Series. This is actually the race that kept us from becoming Track Shack Fanatics this year as we were not sure we would be able to make it due to some other things that tend to happen in January around here and scheduling. As it turned out though, we were able to make it and the race actually ended up being pretty great. To start, my mom came into town on Friday to help us out for this one. She watched the kiddos for us while we went to the race. We were up bright and early to head out to Winter Park for the race. We were not super excited to see the car read the temp as 44 degrees on the way over but at least it wasn't earlier in the week when the temp was in the 20s. I think I would have forfeited the money and sat that one out. Ugh. I could not run in a northern state. Props to those people. They think we are crazy for running in the heat of the summer but I ...

New Years 2018: Family, Football, and Fun

Life has been so nutty around here for the last few months that it has taken me a while to catch up on some of the posts I have wanted to write. One of those is one about New Years 2018. We had such a great weekend and it isn't something we want to forget (though it will be long before that happens). So in the interest of documenting the memories, I wanted to post about it. Before I get to the actual New Years holiday though, I have to back up a bit and talk about our alma mater. UCF managed to do something in the regular football season that no other team could do this year. Go undefeated. It's hard to believe that just two years ago they went winless. Crazy. There were some serious anxiety provoking games (especially at the end), but they did it. They managed to win every game they played which meant winning the conference championship. As the winners of that game, we knew that they were likely going to play in one of the New Years 6 bowls. Namely, the Peach Bowl in Atlanta...
