A Year in Running

As 2017 is winding down, Steven and I have been talking about all the races we did and the training we did to get there and thought it would be fun to take a picture of all of our race shirts/medals. That led to us talking about how much we have run overall. And that led to us deciding to do a brief recap. This year we ran quite a few races. All but one had shirts and most had medals. Here's how it all went down: January - No Races February - Run 4 Love 4 Mile March - No Races April - Iron Girl Clearwater 5k  - Kristen Only             IOA Corporate 5k - Steven Only              RunDisney Star Wars 10k July - Watermelon 5k August -  Celebration of Running 5k September - Battle of the Bands 5k - Steven Only October -  U Can Finish 5 Mile November - Turkey Trot - Steven Only December - Reindeer Run I did the Iron Girl alone (with my mom and sis-in-law) be...

U Can Finish 5 Mile Race Recap

Today we ventured back to what is probably very near the top of my favorite races that we do. They all really have their high points... Iron Girl is girls and women only and along the water in Clearwater Any Disney race is... well... Disney The Track Shack races are so well organized and always a good time ... but this one is one of the favorites round here for a few reasons. The main one being that we get the chance to run through our alma mater including around the baseball field and the football stadium. Can't beat that. The other is the distance. It isn't as far as a 10k, but it is farther than the traditional 5k that we often run so it is more of a challenge but not so far that it is really difficult (though we know we can handle the 10k too). We knew without a doubt that we would make this race happen again this year. We started our morning by getting up around 5:45 to head out to UCF. That was after a long night spent cheering on our Knights (at UCF... so we m...

Bring on the Running Season

So, in the next couple of weeks we will be running our first race of the season. We have a few races planned out over the next few months already and have even already registered for a couple. Let's back up though. I think I have covered this before but "race season" is not something set in stone but it sort of follows a school type calendar around here, it seems. At least that is how I think of it. It starts in the fall and goes through to spring. You find races in the summer, but they are fewer and farther between. That's fine though because for anyone that has run in Florida in the summer... that time of the year is torture. I would make the assumption that race season changes based on where you are located as I would think running in summer in places like Minnesota is more preferred to running in the winter. I can only speak for our local "season". This summer has been... iffy... for us. We didn't really do the things I think we planned as far...

Racing into 2017

As we head into the new year, we have been talking about our racing schedule for the next year. We have a few planned races coming up and some possible ones on our radar that we are still deciding on. It's funny... we don't do a lot of date nights. Mainly because child care is a bit difficult for us at times but also because we choose to spend our time together a little differently a lot of the time. Many couples might choose dinner and a movie... we run. Ironically, we don't run together but we are able to spend some one-on-one time together before and after each race and we love having something to do "together" that is also making us healthier people. 2017 is going to be a bigger racing year for us than 2016. Here's what we have going at this point, month by month. January - We have signed up for a 5k through our church, Grace Pointe Church. This is a very low key 5k, but it is for a good cause. Our church is raising funds for the Laos mission. Because ...

Friday Favorites: Fall (and Halloween) Edition

Warning: Pic heavy post ahead... So, Halloween isn't technically until Monday (which stinks in the grand scheme of things) but we have been having so much fun this fall and Halloween season, that I wanted to bring back the Friday Favorites post for a week to recap some of the highlights. This year we hit up the pumpkin patch near our house early because we mainly wanted to take pictures. =) We have plans to go back this weekend and pick up an actual pumpkin to carve because we didn't want to buy one too early when we were there the first time. We went early because we wanted to try to plan to go with our neighbors and their little girl again this year. Luckily, we were able to find a day and even more lucky... it wasn't crowded at all. Last yer we were closer to Halloween and there were a ton of people there. This year, there were just a few people around which let us take our time and get some pretty good pictures of the kids. Both kids also picked out small pumpkins o...
