Friday Favorites

This has been a fun and eventful week. Since I plan a post about our mini trip to Palm Beach, I will attempt to narrow down just a few "Friday Favorites" for this post.

Saturday Snuggles. Saturday morning's are usually one of the few times our house is in a calm state. Kenzie doesn't last too long in that "state" so we like to get a few snuggles in before she is off and running. Saturday mornings we get her out of bed, go potty, get her dressed, and bring her in to our bed to try to convince her to snuggle with us for just a few minutes (sometimes just a few seconds). Daddy is always the #1 snuggler. I get put on the back burner for a few minutes while those two enjoy each other's company. I sometimes manage to get a second or two of snuggle time in though. It is definitely the best part of my week.

Pretty toesies! I don't get pedicures often. As a matter of a fact, my last one was right about a year ago. I couldn't resist the invite though when my friend asked if I was up for it this past weekend. Of course I was! I can't reach my feet anymore. I attempted to remove my nail polish earlier last week... but that was a fail and I ended up with a ton of left over polish on each nail because I just couldn't make it happen. I figured I should go blue for Will this time since I usually pick a bright pink if I get a pedicure in the summer. This picture was taken on the balcony of the hotel we stayed at for a night in Palm Beach.

She was not happy I made her put the Reese's cups in the
thing instead of eating them...
Our finished, pre-baked product
Baking with this little girl. This is the first time we have tried it... and she LOVED it. She stood up on a stool and helped me stir Daddy's surprise peanut butter blondie thingy. She even ate a few of the candies that were supposed to go in it. Crazy kid.

Whatever this is. Kenzie is a bit obsessed with wearing my fuzzy socks and my shoes if she can find them. We are lucky the shoes match. The socks never do. This is typical Kenzie. Being a nutty kid and "cheesing" like crazy.

Photo Credit to Steven's sister, Julie. Thanks for taking this awesome
picture of us!
Making new memories. We visited Loggerhead Marinelife Center when we went to Palm Beach. Kenzie loved seeing all the turtles. More about that to come in the post about our quick night away (and a recap of Kenzie's first time staying overnight in a hotel... believe it or not.)

Eight is Great!

Today Kenzie is EIGHT! It's so crazy. We have an 8 year old. Only two years away from double digits. A third grader. A girl that is quickly becoming a preteen. There is only a year left (technically) until that is officially the stage we are in. Though I have to say... she acts more and more like an actual preteen every day of her life. She's too much. We often joke that she is 8 going on 28, but in all honesty, she is an old soul and often acts much older than her years. At 8-years-old, Kenzie... - Is still the friendliest kid I know. She loves with her whole heart. She hates to hurt anyone's feelings. The downside is that her feelings get hit hard when someone isn't nice to her. We have had to deal with that on occasion, especially in the last year when we had a run in with a girl that Kenzie thought was her friend but she ended up being not really nice to Kenzie in the long run. We learned as parents that the "mean girl" stage starts early. Kenzie...

13 Weeks to 13 Miles! OUC Orlando Half Marathon Training: Week 7

This is it. This is officially the middle week of the 13 weeks to 13 miles training plan. It's the odd man out week. It is also the week after our rest week and the week that things really start to pick up speed. We have mostly done overall low mileage weeks up until this point topping out at 13 miles which is overall less than the half marathon... by a measly .1 mile but that mileage was all divvied up over 3 runs so it's definitely not the same. Now we start ramping up and we don't slow down until the week before the race when we essentially taper. This week is an overall 15 miles and by the end, we will top out at 22 weekly miles. Eek. We can do it! I know we can. I hope. Haha! Tuesday Plan: 4 Miles, Actual: 4 Miles Whew! Another run in the books. This one was probably one of the worst ones so far. Not because I didn't run okay. I was actually fine for most of the run. I kept my 1:1 intervals and paced about 13:30 without too many outliers as far as timing goes. ...

New State Parks, Beaches, Movies, and Friend Time

Another weekend has been put in the books for the Young Household. This weekend was actually a bit less crazy than some of our others, I think but still filled with fun and some new things. We started Friday afternoon when Steven was able to come home an hour or so early. We started getting ready for our big Saturday plans and then made pizza and sat down to watch a movie. We love this Friday tradition. We try to do it at least a couple times a month. We used to order pizza but when we started watching our finances closer, we determined that it was better for us to make pizza either homemade or frozen (and the kids like frozen pizza as much as pizza from a restaurant right now so we will continue to capitalize on that for a while... Will loves homemade but Kenzie is in a current anti-homemade stage because she is weird). Anyway, we made a frozen pizza and some cheesy bread. Then we sat down together to watch Inside Out. We picked it up at the library last week and never had a chance ...
