Friday Favorites

I thought it might be fun to start a new weekly blog post recapping some of my/our favorite things or events from the prior week. Why not? I give you... the first installation of Friday Favorites!

I know I have posted a picture of this on Facebook already because it was finished about 2 weeks ago... but I get so excited every time I walk by it. This is Kenzie's Lemonade Stand that I made to use as a centerpiece for her 2nd birthday party. I cheated and used a model that I found on Pinterest but I'm still so proud of myself. I also made that adorable pinwheel and there are plenty more of them that will make an appearance when I do her birthday decorations post.

7-11's Free Slurpee Day! I am seriously obsessed with coke Slurpees. I have been for years. It tends to be something I crave even more when pregnant. I try to not indulge too often because of the caffeine but they are so good. This year, I even let Kenzie get in on the action. (Okay, so last year and the year before she inadvertently got in on the action... she was still breastfeeding last year and the year before I was pregnant.) She had half of a watermelon flavored Slurpee. The lady serving them wouldn't let me out of there without getting Kenzie one. The kid LOVED it. She is definitely my child. I wouldn't let her drink it in the car on the way home. That thing was red, after all and she freaked out the whole way home until she was given her Slurpee back. Who wouldn't love July 11th?

This salad is seriously amazing. I can never remember the same of it. Something like 1893 Salad or something at Buca. I was craving this thing. No worries... I didn't eat the pepperoni or salami and the feta is definitely pasteurized. Not that once would likely be an issue...

This. Seriously. This is one of the coolest and best inventions ever. I know you can do the same thing with a soap bottle. I've seen that post on Facebook too, but I never buy soap bottles that the size would be appropriate, it seems. So, I just bought one. Kenzie LOVES this thing. She is obsessed with washing her hands. Now that we have an officially potty trained (daytime at least) toddler, it is a miraculous invention. . Lifting her up to be able to wash her hands was getting to be way too taxing for me though and Will is definitely starting to get in the way of a lot of things like that. So, without further ado... a faucet extender! Best $8 I ever spent and it actually came with a second extender that we will hold on to in case this one breaks. (It was actually $10 but I had a 20% off coupon for Buy Buy Baby.) Our kids is absolutely obsessed with washing her hands... I may create a (very sanitary) monster with this thing

These two goofballs. This week we celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary and we finally got around to making it out for an anniversary dinner at Buca. Couldn't leave Kenzie behind. "Getti" is just about her favorite food. These two people are my everything. I can't imagine a day without them.

Young Summer of Fun - Bucket List Update (Week 12)

Honestly, I debated doing a weekly update for this week because we didn't actually check anything off the summer bucket list... but decided to go ahead and do it because we did do some fun stuff. Plus, there are only two more weeks of this (including this one) so anyone that is actually interested can read it if they want. =) This week was fairly low key. Steven was dealing with his shingles diagnosis so we didn't do anything too crazy because the main reason he likely came down with it was because he is so run down and stressed out. Kenzie had school all week. Well, except Monday but on Monday's, we dance. She did great at dance by the way! She goes to dance each week and then spends the next 6 days asking us if she has dance. We made her a calendar for the fridge that lists her activities and dance is on it. We cross off each day so she can count down to dance. Doesn't matter. She still asks. Wishful thinking, I guess. And she is still rocking school. She is doing...

Spending Time At The Family Dinner Table

I set a few new goals for this school year. I have big plans. Always. Haha! Anyway, my goal has been to try to add one new recipe per week to our rotation of meals as well as use our slow cooker once a week. So far, we have been doing pretty well and so far, we have enjoyed all of our new meals. We did have a week of set back so far when we had no power after Hurricane Irma so that we didn't make any new meals or anything. The current week was another difficult week as we had to spend money restocking some essentials in our kitchen that we lost due to the power outage so we had to hold off on anything new this week, as well. The main goal of all of this has been to add new recipes but also make sure that we are spending time at the dinner table as a family. This is something we have tried to do since our kids have been old enough to understand eating dinner as a family. BC (Before Children) and even when Kenzie was small, we ate in the living room while watching TV a lot, but as ...

Swimming Lessons 2017

This year we returned to Sunny Days Swim School and Ms. Shunda for the kids' swimming lessons. We are so glad we did. We seriously love Ms. Shunda. She is amazing. For anyone that hasn't heard about the kids' lessons before, she teaches Red Cross Certified lessons. It isn't the ISR type of lesson like a lot of children do. Instead, it teaches the kids how to swim and get themselves out of a pool if they fall in (like ISR) but also teaches the basics of beginning swimming such as the freestyle stroke, backstroke, and things like that to build up to more advanced skills later. I think ISR is great for most kids, but it didn't seem like the best fit for our kiddos. They both seem to do so well with the more "traditional" lessons but we required that they be one-on-one in the pool and still focused initially on survival skills. Being that both kids are still in the "preschool aquatics" section though so it is more about survival skills with the la...
