Adventures in Potty Training - Days 5 & 6

This will be probably be my final daily update for how we are doing in potty training land. Kenzie has been doing great! I definitely can't complain when I think about the fact that less than a week ago, she was in diapers full time. While this wasn't always an easy process, it definitely wasn't as bad in retrospect as it could have been.

Day 5:
Today was a good day but (if I haven't mentioned it before) we shall now approach every day of potty training as you would a no hitter. No talking about it until the day is over and Kenzie is in bed for the night! Kenzie did great today though.

She didn't tell me when she had to potty but I took her about every half hour. Most of the time, she went. We did have one accident but it was when she was playing with some friends outside in front of the house and when I asked her, she... of course... said no. She was really in to what she was doing though, so it wasn't surprising to me. The plus... we were outside. No cleaning up a carpet!!!

My mom came in to visit for the weekend because Steven is out of town and we chanced our first longer outing by going to Froggers for dinner. She did great there too, even using their potty once. We went about 4 times just because I was freaking out. She never had a problem though and took it all in stride. Kenzie seems just fine as long as any time she leaves a bathroom she can wash her hands. I don't mind that one bit.

The only interesting thing that she did was that at about 11pm, hours after she had been put down she woke up crying "tee tee potty!" Momma and I went in and sure enough she had JUST gone in her diaper. It was still warm. We let her sit on her potty but she didn't go more. I'm starting to wonder if she might end up night time training herself to a point.

Day 6:
Our best (and yet grossest) day yet!!! First off, she woke up dry this morning. After her initial wake up with a wet diaper around 11pm, she slept the rest of the night and never went potty in her diaper.

We were out ALL DAY LONG with the exception of coming home around nap time. She did great all morning and told us any time she had to potty. We got her to one on time every time and she (again) had no issues with public restrooms. You have no idea how grateful I am for that. If she was afraid of those, we might have an issue. I can't carry around a potty in my car her entire life and I certainly can't always make it to that potty.

At nap time we decided to be home to let her nap in a diaper and be comfortable in her bed. She did great and woke up dry after a 2 hour nap (plus a bit). In the afternoon we went out again and she did great! While at dinner she requested to go potty 6 (yes! 6!) times. She went 5 of those 6 times. On the way home we wanted to run in to Winn Dixie for something and figured it was just a few more minutes. This is where our only issue of the day was. See, Kenzie had not pooped in over 36 hours at this point. We knew it was coming but you never really know when. She kept telling us "gas" over and over again so we knew she was feeling some issues in her tummy. We tried to get her to go before we went inside but she wouldn't. While we were paying she was patting her butt and saying "poop" "gas" so I ran her outside to the potty, but we didn't make it in time. We had her first poop accident since we started all this 6 days ago. She handled it like a champ. I like to think I did too since I was cleaning poop off of a wiggly, almost 2 year old in the parking lot of a Winn Dixie. I really think that had we been home and I could have kept her sitting on her potty for a bit, she would have gone there instead of in her undies. She seemed to understand earlier today though (than she did 2 days ago) that she had to poop and was trying to tell me. So, we are moving in the right direction. On the way home she peed in her new undies but I think at that point since she wasn't dealing with tummy issue anymore, she just couldn't hold out any longer. Because they happened in such quick succession, I am calling it one accident on the day. Just like yesterday.

It's crazy to believe that less than a week ago we were in diapers full time and now... this. I just know that when Will gets to this point, I will get my payback. For now, I will relish in not always worrying about if she is going to have an accident at any moment and let her do what she does (which is make me laugh a lot).

This will be the last of my daily updates. I might do a weekly one for a while. I am also still working on that tips/tricks post and it should be up in a few days. I wanted to see her through to just a couple of accidents a day fairly consistently before I put a final version out there. I can't believe how stressed I was about this just a few days ago, but it has seriously been one of the most frustrating, stressful times in my life so far as a mommy. I see the light at the end of our tunnel though and we will just keep making our way towards it.

Ushering in Five-and-a-half

No. Nope. Not happening. Not even close.... but it is. As of tomorrow, Will is officially five-and-a-half. Halfway to six. SIX. What on earth? Both of our kids need to slow their roll and take it down a notch. It's so crazy to think that Will is going to be six in just six short months. He will start Kindergarten soon. He is already registered and ready to go. He is growing up so fast right before our eyes and it is a happy and sad time for me as Mama, for sure. So, a short update on Will at 5-and-a-half... - Will is growing like a weed. It is not uncommon right now for people to ask me if he has grown inches upon inches overnight. We are noticing that he is catching up to Kenzie fairly quickly and some of his friends that he used to be very similar in height to, he has gotten slightly taller than them. It's just his growth spurt time, apparently.  He remains remarkably skinny. So skinny that his clothes tend to fall of of him if we don't have adjustable waists. T...

Preschool Done.... One Step Closer to MIT

So, here it is. The end of "preschool." Note: "Preschool" and "VPK" are not used interchangeably for the purpose of our discussion. In the sense of the word, Kenzie is done with "preschool" and next year will be in "VPK". Eek! That's not allowed. Kenzie's first official year in school is now done. She is one year older, one year wiser, one year more stubborn. It's crazy for us to think back that just a few short months ago we were going to her Meet the Teacher day and we were both having some major anxiety about our baby going to school. I remember the first day of school plain as day. I thought she might have some apprehension. Nope. None. I probably shouldn't have been surprised. Kenzie went in like she owned the place. There was a day that her teacher mentioned that Kenzie was one of the quiet ones in the class and rarely spoke. I'm still not sure that she was thinking of my Kenzie. Maybe I had been dropping of...

Eight is Great!

Today Kenzie is EIGHT! It's so crazy. We have an 8 year old. Only two years away from double digits. A third grader. A girl that is quickly becoming a preteen. There is only a year left (technically) until that is officially the stage we are in. Though I have to say... she acts more and more like an actual preteen every day of her life. She's too much. We often joke that she is 8 going on 28, but in all honesty, she is an old soul and often acts much older than her years. At 8-years-old, Kenzie... - Is still the friendliest kid I know. She loves with her whole heart. She hates to hurt anyone's feelings. The downside is that her feelings get hit hard when someone isn't nice to her. We have had to deal with that on occasion, especially in the last year when we had a run in with a girl that Kenzie thought was her friend but she ended up being not really nice to Kenzie in the long run. We learned as parents that the "mean girl" stage starts early. Kenzie...
