Friday Favorites... Thursday Edition

Welcome to this Thursday edition of Friday Favorites. I'm getting a head start on this because we are set to have a big weekend this week. Tomorrow we have Julie, Eric, and (my favorite part) Evie coming into town to spend the weekend with us and meet Will. Yay!! I'm mainly looking forward to snuggling my precious niece. Seriously, if you haven't seen a picture of her you are missing out on some serious cuteness. Be prepared for adorable overload when we get all the cousins together for a few pic this weekend. We also have Will's 1 month appointment in the morning and we have the UCF game on TV at night. In light of all of that (and the fact that tomorrow I will be posting my 1 month birthday letter to Will) I figured I would go ahead and do Friday Favorites now. I actually have a pretty big one going this week. There have been a lot of times this week that I have had a moment when I thought, "THIS... I want to remember THIS."

Fall has arrived!! Okay, well... as much as it arrives in Florida, ever. That basically means that we don't really see 80 degree weather anymore. So, on Friday of last week it was finally chilly enough that I felt okay making chili. This was actually one of the freezer meals that I prepped before Will was born. It was all put together and I just had to defrost it and throw it in the crockpot. It was actually pretty good. I also made some yummy cornbread because what's chili without cornbread?

This kid cracks me up when he sleeps. Kenzie does too so I figure I am just going to see more crazy sleeping positions as time goes on. He likes his swaddle (most of the time) at night and really we mainly use it to combat those reflexes that make him hit himself in the face and wake himself up. I think he won't have a lot of issues breaking from using the swaddle though and during the day he sleeps in these types of positions.

Speaking of Will and sleeping (or at least being calm), anytime he cries Kenzie either sings Rock A Bye Baby (super fast... we have no idea why she sings it so fast... but she does and thinks it is hilarious) or she asks me to sing "Flowers" with her. Kingston Trio existed long before Kenzie did... but she loves this song and anything else by them. Who can blame her? It's catchy and their harmonies are fabulous.

Speaking of war related things, this week included Veteran's Day. I am so thankful for all the men and women that risk their lives and make these sacrifices so that I can continue to live in a free country and so that my children will grow up in a country of freedom. I have numerous family members that served in the armed forces. We donated to the Veterans this week and Kenzie was super thrilled with her "Buddy" poppy. These always make me tear up a bit. My grandfather (who I called Papa but some of my family members referred to as "Buddy") was a POW in Korea. These little flowers always remind me of him. I look forward to passing on stories about who he was and what a great man he was to my children as they grow older. He was a lucky one. He came back. So many don't. Honoring Veterans as well as those that never made it back home to their families is very important to me and I want my children grow up knowing how important those people are.

We finally got around to using a gift card we had for Red Lobster this past weekend. It was our first dinner outing as a family of 4 with no one else. We did pretty well. I fed Will just before we left, he fell asleep in the car, and he stayed that way until the end of our meal. He woke up right as we were paying and about to head out so that worked out well.

I love these two. I seriously do... but why is my child awake and my husband isn't? I should note that Kenzie was awake too and I was hoping for some back up. Since Will isn't walking yet and can't assist... that means Steven. I practically had to drag him out of bed though. He even slept in... note the time in the picture. After 8 is almost unheard of in this house.

I think this is one of the cutest things ever. Kenzie has started mimicking how I feed will. As I've mentioned, I exclusively breastfeed and we haven't yet used a bottle so Kenzie hasn't seen Will get fed in any other manner. Her new thing is to sit down on the floor with the mini Boppy, lift her shirt, and feed this stuffed monkey of Will's. The only issue is that she thinks Will eats from my belly button. I've explained how it works to her but she can't conceptualize it yet. Regardless, it is adorable.

Speaking of Will eating. I love those after eating snuggles. Milk comas are adorable. He doesn't always fall asleep after nursing... But I like when he does.

Kenzie is my big girl helper. She is so me. Kid loves to clean. Her new thing is to use her ball popper (worst toy ever by the way... Thank you Grandma and Grandaddy for that one. Haha!) as a vacuum anytime I vacuum. I appreciate the help but I wish it actually vacuumed. :)

Now, anyone that knows me even remotely well, probably knows that I am a bit obsessive about order. I don't like things out of place. I remember posting a picture after Kenzie was born of my livingroom and how out of order it seemed (to me, at least). That was nothing. Now that we have a toddler and a baby... I'm outnumbered during the day and order has to sort of go out the window for a bit. Here's the real fun though... Will is in this picture. Can you find him? Haha! (Sidenote: The rule is that Kenzie helps clean up before naps and bedtime... so at night my house looks normal but with toys put neatly into certain areas of the room.

Now that fall has arrived and brought along cooler weather, we are able to play outside more. Kenzie LOVES to play with her sidewalk chalk and her riding push car thing. Will and I usually just watch. Sometimes he naps in the stroller so I can play with Kenzie. If we aren't out front you can often find us on the back porch just hanging out. The only downfall to that is that then Kenzie tries to bring all the toys shown in the picture above outside...

Kenzie is a really verbal child. (She is super clumsy though so I guess that is our trade off... she is constantly running into thing. I think her little brain moves faster than her body and she doesn't react quickly enough sometimes... Haha!) She is constantly coming up with crazy random things to say as well and this week I wanted to highlight a few of my current favorites...

Whenever you give her a choice to make she says, "Hmmmm.... let's see here..." and taps her finger on her chin. Adorbs.
If you try to get her out of her chair at the dinner table before she is done she wags her finger at you and says, "No, no, no... not done yet."
If she is crying about something she will say, "Kenzie crying. Okay, I done crying now." when she starts to calm down.
"Mommy! I need you!" This one can get annoying... but it is nice to be needed. I won't always be needed.

Finally, I will leave you with all this cuteness... What were your fave moments of your week??

Ushering in Five-and-a-half

No. Nope. Not happening. Not even close.... but it is. As of tomorrow, Will is officially five-and-a-half. Halfway to six. SIX. What on earth? Both of our kids need to slow their roll and take it down a notch. It's so crazy to think that Will is going to be six in just six short months. He will start Kindergarten soon. He is already registered and ready to go. He is growing up so fast right before our eyes and it is a happy and sad time for me as Mama, for sure. So, a short update on Will at 5-and-a-half... - Will is growing like a weed. It is not uncommon right now for people to ask me if he has grown inches upon inches overnight. We are noticing that he is catching up to Kenzie fairly quickly and some of his friends that he used to be very similar in height to, he has gotten slightly taller than them. It's just his growth spurt time, apparently.  He remains remarkably skinny. So skinny that his clothes tend to fall of of him if we don't have adjustable waists. T...

Preschool Done.... One Step Closer to MIT

So, here it is. The end of "preschool." Note: "Preschool" and "VPK" are not used interchangeably for the purpose of our discussion. In the sense of the word, Kenzie is done with "preschool" and next year will be in "VPK". Eek! That's not allowed. Kenzie's first official year in school is now done. She is one year older, one year wiser, one year more stubborn. It's crazy for us to think back that just a few short months ago we were going to her Meet the Teacher day and we were both having some major anxiety about our baby going to school. I remember the first day of school plain as day. I thought she might have some apprehension. Nope. None. I probably shouldn't have been surprised. Kenzie went in like she owned the place. There was a day that her teacher mentioned that Kenzie was one of the quiet ones in the class and rarely spoke. I'm still not sure that she was thinking of my Kenzie. Maybe I had been dropping of...

Eight is Great!

Today Kenzie is EIGHT! It's so crazy. We have an 8 year old. Only two years away from double digits. A third grader. A girl that is quickly becoming a preteen. There is only a year left (technically) until that is officially the stage we are in. Though I have to say... she acts more and more like an actual preteen every day of her life. She's too much. We often joke that she is 8 going on 28, but in all honesty, she is an old soul and often acts much older than her years. At 8-years-old, Kenzie... - Is still the friendliest kid I know. She loves with her whole heart. She hates to hurt anyone's feelings. The downside is that her feelings get hit hard when someone isn't nice to her. We have had to deal with that on occasion, especially in the last year when we had a run in with a girl that Kenzie thought was her friend but she ended up being not really nice to Kenzie in the long run. We learned as parents that the "mean girl" stage starts early. Kenzie...
