A Second A Day - February 2017

Another month has come to an end in 2017. This year seems to be flying by. We have continued with our Second A Day project and are loving it more and more everyday.

This month we did a lot of fun things and it was actually really difficult to use just one second per day of a video. We had some days that we could have used three or four different videos and plenty of days that a second or two seemed way too short but we tried to keep it within reason.

I have also been dealing with some technical issues this month that almost sidelined our project. First off, my phone has a major issue with the motherboard that causes it to have severe glitching and static on one side almost constantly. Ironically, the phone still works underneath the static so I could still take videos. I just had some issues doing it because I can still only see half the screen. Until I get home and put the video on the computer, I can't actually see it well enough to know if I got what I meant to get. We've worked through it though and I have a new phone coming tomorrow.

Also, the app I was using on my phone started giving me major issues. All of a sudden it decided that some of my videos weren't worth merging together. It would randomly move them around and out of order and skip some entirely. I became so frustrated that I gave up on the app entirely. I ended up finding a program/app on my computer that works really well. The only catch is that it sometimes decides that my videos are upside down. It just means that every day I have to put the video on my computer and make sure it works because if not, I might need to use another video. I've been taking a few a day just to make sure that I don't end up with a day without a video. Then, I had an issue finding the best way to add music. Eventually I decided to use Windows Movie Maker which is working well so far. I'm hoping it continues to work well when we run out of the first song and need to add a new one in. We are coming in at just over 2 minutes now so this month ended up shorter. That is partially because it is just a shorter month and partially because I was trying to watch the length of clips. There are some I would have liked to make longer but I was trying to keep it under control.

So, we were able to make another month of our video and add it to January. Here it is! January - February 2017 in a Second A Day...

Ushering in Five-and-a-half

No. Nope. Not happening. Not even close.... but it is. As of tomorrow, Will is officially five-and-a-half. Halfway to six. SIX. What on earth? Both of our kids need to slow their roll and take it down a notch. It's so crazy to think that Will is going to be six in just six short months. He will start Kindergarten soon. He is already registered and ready to go. He is growing up so fast right before our eyes and it is a happy and sad time for me as Mama, for sure. So, a short update on Will at 5-and-a-half... - Will is growing like a weed. It is not uncommon right now for people to ask me if he has grown inches upon inches overnight. We are noticing that he is catching up to Kenzie fairly quickly and some of his friends that he used to be very similar in height to, he has gotten slightly taller than them. It's just his growth spurt time, apparently.  He remains remarkably skinny. So skinny that his clothes tend to fall of of him if we don't have adjustable waists. T...

Making the Most of Spring Break

This is the first year that "Spring Break" actually seemed like a thing instead of just another random week. I think that is because Kenzie is in school 4 days a week this year so it is more like "real" school rather than the 2 days a week that was preschool last year. So, I wanted to try to make Spring Break fun and something different instead of just spending it like another week. We were limited in what we could do because Steven has been super busy at work and couldn't take any additional time off. We already have his days planned out for the entire year so that he can take a few days here and there for specific things but keep a good balance of days in case something comes up and we need them. So, I had to come up with some things that we don't typically do every day but that were easy enough for me to handle two small children during and that were inexpensive/free. Side note: We turned in all the paperwork to enroll Will in preschool next year this l...

This is Seven... and-a-half

Today is Kenzie's half birthday! We kind of have a thing about half birthdays around here. We don't do anything major, but we like to mark their appearance because it is fun for the kids to know that they are officially halfway to their next birthday. It's a bit bittersweet for me though. As is the usual, here is a brief update on all things Kenzie. - She is still really tall. She is somewhere around 53.5 inches or so. I honestly don't know for sure. They are so hard to measure on my own. It's about 2.5 inches taller than 6 months ago so I think that could be about right. Either way, most of her height remains in her legs. - She is so amazing at math. Seriously, this kid got all her Daddy's math brains. Thankfully. Her teacher made the comment at parent teacher conference that she was so excited to see her best math student this year is a girl. She just figures out math problems super easily. She also loves it. She asks us to play math games with her o...
