It's Fall Y'all!

This weekend was the first that truly felt like fall in Florida. It was AH-MAZ-ING! I love my hot, summer weather. I love the beach and the pool.... but at some point... I'm ready for this. I love for the weather to match the mood of football and to be able to take walks in the evening during which we do not sweat like we are running a marathon. This weekend was our first of that sort. It was so great in fact, that I forgot to take any pictures to chronicle our awesome weekend. That just means that we had such a great time though, that I had to live entirely in the moment. I was too busy enjoying my family to remember those pictures. Oops.

We started the weekend by going to my parents' house to celebrate my mom's birthday. We were supposed to go last weekend, but both kids were under the weather so we elected to postpone the visit. This weekend we were originally supposed to attend Will's October buddy's first birthday party, but he ended up under the weather so that has now been pushed back two weeks. Since we no longer had plans, we elected to go spur of the moment to Palatka for part of the day.

We drove up early in the morning and I immediately regretted putting Will in shorts for the day. It was definitely even cooler there. Unfortunately, they have had a TON of rain there lately and so we were unable to go into the yard, but we did have plenty of time to relax  on their back porch and the weather was perfect! We had lunch with them, hung around a while and then eventually headed home. We wanted to be home by dinner. Steven and I have been seriously trying to lose a few pounds each so we wanted to be able to eat at home. We have walked (a lot) over the last couple of weeks and are watching what we eat. We are both doing really well! Anyway, we had leftovers for dinner and then decided to go on an evening walk. It was super nice so we went outside of our development. Took us about 45 minutes or so, I think, but both kids loved it. Jack likes these long walks, too.

Yesterday evening and night we watched some football with all the windows open. Fabulous weather. Then this morning Will was up at his usual 6am. Kenzie, however, slept until almost 8:15 because she was awake and playing in her bed until close to 11 last night because she napped for 1.5 hours in the car. Oh the joy of a 3-year-old that functions better during the day with a nap, but is terrible then at going to bed at night. Such a terrible transition to go to no naps. Anyway, that's another story for another time. Steven slept in, as well. I could have woken him up, but he was sleeping so well. He gets the next 6am weekend shift with Will though. Haha!

Beside the fact that everyone got up too late to attend church, we elected to sit it out this week because we want to expose Will to as few germs as possible the week before his party. We ended up going on a walk this morning and then coming back and doing some yard work in preparation for the party weekend. We have friends and family coming in on Friday evening so we want to have as much done beforehand as possible. When Will woke up and we all had lunch, we went to run a few errands. By the time we finished all that, it was time for Will's second nap of the day so we put Kenzie in front of the TV and Steven and I cleaned the back porch. It was so nice to do it and not be soaked in sweat (we are still soaked in water from rinsing the porch) by the time we finished. We did a bit more yard work and then called it a day. After dinner we went on another walk and then got the kids ready for bed.

Steven and I are getting ready to relax and watch some TV. I hope this change in the weather is going to be a fairly permanent thing for the season now. Will's party is this weekend and I think it is set to be hotter, but it would be nice to be able to have people outside if they want.

We had the back door and windows open almost all weekend. The kids LOVED being able to go outside as they wished. We knew when we screened in our back porch that one day, we would be so thankful. And we are. It is amazing for the kids this time of year. Will had a blast going in and out the door. Kenzie took almost every toy from inside out there. The two of them had a blast.

It was such a great weekend. I can't wait for more like it. We are hoping to get back to Disney soon. Kenzie is going to get her first haircut and we are going to finally get EPCOT done with the kids. It is the final park that they haven't visited yet. I may love summer... but I have decided that I LOVE fall. =)

Young Summer of Fun - Bucket List Update (Week 12)

Honestly, I debated doing a weekly update for this week because we didn't actually check anything off the summer bucket list... but decided to go ahead and do it because we did do some fun stuff. Plus, there are only two more weeks of this (including this one) so anyone that is actually interested can read it if they want. =) This week was fairly low key. Steven was dealing with his shingles diagnosis so we didn't do anything too crazy because the main reason he likely came down with it was because he is so run down and stressed out. Kenzie had school all week. Well, except Monday but on Monday's, we dance. She did great at dance by the way! She goes to dance each week and then spends the next 6 days asking us if she has dance. We made her a calendar for the fridge that lists her activities and dance is on it. We cross off each day so she can count down to dance. Doesn't matter. She still asks. Wishful thinking, I guess. And she is still rocking school. She is doing...

13 Weeks to 13 Miles! OUC Orlando Half Marathon Training: Week 7

This is it. This is officially the middle week of the 13 weeks to 13 miles training plan. It's the odd man out week. It is also the week after our rest week and the week that things really start to pick up speed. We have mostly done overall low mileage weeks up until this point topping out at 13 miles which is overall less than the half marathon... by a measly .1 mile but that mileage was all divvied up over 3 runs so it's definitely not the same. Now we start ramping up and we don't slow down until the week before the race when we essentially taper. This week is an overall 15 miles and by the end, we will top out at 22 weekly miles. Eek. We can do it! I know we can. I hope. Haha! Tuesday Plan: 4 Miles, Actual: 4 Miles Whew! Another run in the books. This one was probably one of the worst ones so far. Not because I didn't run okay. I was actually fine for most of the run. I kept my 1:1 intervals and paced about 13:30 without too many outliers as far as timing goes. ...

Spending Time At The Family Dinner Table

I set a few new goals for this school year. I have big plans. Always. Haha! Anyway, my goal has been to try to add one new recipe per week to our rotation of meals as well as use our slow cooker once a week. So far, we have been doing pretty well and so far, we have enjoyed all of our new meals. We did have a week of set back so far when we had no power after Hurricane Irma so that we didn't make any new meals or anything. The current week was another difficult week as we had to spend money restocking some essentials in our kitchen that we lost due to the power outage so we had to hold off on anything new this week, as well. The main goal of all of this has been to add new recipes but also make sure that we are spending time at the dinner table as a family. This is something we have tried to do since our kids have been old enough to understand eating dinner as a family. BC (Before Children) and even when Kenzie was small, we ate in the living room while watching TV a lot, but as ...
