Friday Favorites - Elf on the Shelf Edition (Week 4)

This was Kenny's final week in our home. Honestly, I'm so thankful that Kenzie is so easily amused. Having a toddler and infant is tiring enough. Remembering to move Kenny or finding ways to make him creative sometimes requires more energy than I seem to be able to muster. I'm so glad Kenzie enjoyed having him in the house though. I am excited for his return next year. I will have way more supplies ready for more creative Kenny days.

On Day 1 Kenny showed up with a gift. He brought us a gingerbread village kit!

The day's activity was obviously a craft (putting together our village). Kenzie LOVED this activity. She talked for days about making "building" since we had a whole village. The village also ended up being perfect as the centerpiece for our appetizers table on Christmas Day. Kenzie only snuck a small amount of candy. I, actually, really liked this one too. I haven't ever made a gingerbread house before so it was so much fun experiencing it with my little girl this first time.

On Day 2, Kenny borrowed Kenzie's car (and some of her friends) to take a little drive.

The day's activity was to drive around and look at lights. Well... we drove. We saw lights. We actually ended up going to Palatka though to celebrate my little brother's 25th birthday. We did get to see my parent's lights though... so that counts right?

On Day 4, Kenny decided to play a rousing game of hide and seek. Kenzie thought this was hilarious... once she found him. Apparently his camouflage was a bit too good.

The day's activity was the annual Young Christmas Party that Steven's parents have been hosting for many years. It was a lot of fun. All Christmas Party pics were taken by my sister in law. =)

On Day 5, Kenny built a snowman.

The day's activity was another craft. It was sort of a placeholder activity. Being that I didn't have a lot on hand and we were so close to Christmas, our time was limited so we ended up doing the advent tree that my grandmother sent to Kenzie and Will. It was just putting stickers on a tree, but Kenzie enjoyed it. She loves stickers. I actually don't have a picture of it but you can use your imagination. =)

Day 6 brought Kenny playing a little game. He hid 5 candy canes and we had to hunt them down. Once Kenzie understood what we were doing, she seemed to like it. She had fun looking for them.

The day's activity was to go to Kit Land Nelson park here in Apopka to see their lights. Kenzie and Will were both enamored with the lights. I love that our city does this every year.

On Day 6, Kenny celebrated his final day with us. He wrote the kids a poem saying goodbye and explaining that he would return next year. He also brought our Christmas jammas. This is a tradition that started in my family many, many years ago. Santa's elf brings jammas on Christmas Eve for us to wear while waiting for Santa. It was something we knew we wanted to continue with our kids and I love it.

The day's activities were quite vast. We had to make cookies, go to church, go to Christmas dinner, and read The Night Before Christmas before going to bed. Somehow...we got everything done. =) Kenzie loved making cookies. She is a heavy sprinkler like her Daddy. We finally made it back to church (and plan to start back weekly this weekend) with Will. Dinner was awesome. Kenzie ate three servings of spaghetti and meatballs and about half a loaf of bread. She really enjoyed reading The Night Before Christmas this year. It was the first year that it captivated her atttention.

So, that ends our month of Elf on the Shelf. I think Kenzie liked it. I'm looking forward to it again next year. =)

Eight is Great!

Today Kenzie is EIGHT! It's so crazy. We have an 8 year old. Only two years away from double digits. A third grader. A girl that is quickly becoming a preteen. There is only a year left (technically) until that is officially the stage we are in. Though I have to say... she acts more and more like an actual preteen every day of her life. She's too much. We often joke that she is 8 going on 28, but in all honesty, she is an old soul and often acts much older than her years. At 8-years-old, Kenzie... - Is still the friendliest kid I know. She loves with her whole heart. She hates to hurt anyone's feelings. The downside is that her feelings get hit hard when someone isn't nice to her. We have had to deal with that on occasion, especially in the last year when we had a run in with a girl that Kenzie thought was her friend but she ended up being not really nice to Kenzie in the long run. We learned as parents that the "mean girl" stage starts early. Kenzie...

Ushering in Five-and-a-half

No. Nope. Not happening. Not even close.... but it is. As of tomorrow, Will is officially five-and-a-half. Halfway to six. SIX. What on earth? Both of our kids need to slow their roll and take it down a notch. It's so crazy to think that Will is going to be six in just six short months. He will start Kindergarten soon. He is already registered and ready to go. He is growing up so fast right before our eyes and it is a happy and sad time for me as Mama, for sure. So, a short update on Will at 5-and-a-half... - Will is growing like a weed. It is not uncommon right now for people to ask me if he has grown inches upon inches overnight. We are noticing that he is catching up to Kenzie fairly quickly and some of his friends that he used to be very similar in height to, he has gotten slightly taller than them. It's just his growth spurt time, apparently.  He remains remarkably skinny. So skinny that his clothes tend to fall of of him if we don't have adjustable waists. T...

Our New "Normal"

Wow. That's all I have to say about life right now. 2020 has been crazy. Back at the beginning of this year I made a chalkboard art that said something about ushering in the "roaring 20's," to which my ever positive husband replied something about 1920 having a plague (I see you, Spanish Flu) and we probably didn't want that to happen again. Fast forward to April... and we are all confined to our homes with the exception of leaving for groceries, medical needs, and exercise because of... a pandemic. (Insert facepalm emoji here... but I'm on a laptop so I don't have one of those.) This has been a crazy start to a new year. I am still having trouble wrapping my head around what has gone on over the last month or so for our country, our world, and our family. Here's what we should be doing... both kids should be in school today. Steven would likely be sitting in a water plant in Melbourne counting down the hours until he got to come home because he had ...
