Friday Favorites

Honestly, I sort of hoped that I might be too busy to write this post. You know... having a baby and all. Yet... here I am. =) That's okay. Two weeks tops and the new little guy will likely get to be included in a Friday Favorites post.

This week we finally got a few days (okay, about a day and maybe a half) of cooler "fall" weather. Fall in Florida is a bit different than it is in most other places, but I wouldn't change it for anything. I love our fall weather. Saturday it started to cool down some so we headed out to Lake Eustis to walk along the lake and then had dinner at The Crazy Gator. We figured we would enjoy our time as a family of three a bit since there are not many more sure days between now and when we become a family of four.

Kenzie and Daddy on the boardwalk at Lake Eustis before dinner. I love that we
finally got her to keep her sunglasses on for more than 2.2 seconds.

Sunday was our actual cool day. When we got up and got dressed for church it was downright chilly. That means high 50's, low 60's for you non-Floridian people. =) So, Kenzie kept telling us she was cold and we dressed her in a sweater and her skinny jeans. I was super excited to get to put this outfit on her for the morning. I don't know why. Just was.

After church (and lunch and a nap) we went to the park for a bit. We haven't been to the park in months with how hot it has been and Kenzie was definitely happy to be back. It seems like everyone that lives within 10 miles of us might have had the same idea though and it was PACKED. Unfortunately, that meant that it was a bit too much for Kenzie. She did okay, but she wouldn't play around some of the older (and rougher) kids that were on the younger kid play area. Why they weren't on the one for their size... I have no idea, but they weren't and Kenzie was a little nervous around them because they were playing so rough. She still freaked when we left though and we had to drag her away promising to come back later in the week. Which we actually did today. Daddy is at work but it was fairly cool this morning so her and I had a park morning. Again, I had to drag her away. There was only one or two other children there today though and she did much better. She let me put her in the swing. For some reason that freaked her out on Sunday, but was okay today. I can't wait to have more park days as the fall season gets more on track.

... I feel like it's worth mentioning that she finally let me put her hair up (and out of her eyes) as long as I called them "double palm trees" and not "piggie tails". Seriously. This kid kills me.

Our week hasn't been super eventful. We are mostly just hanging around wondering when Will is going to decide to make his debut. Saturday I managed to get in a pedicure and we spent the afternoon watching football. There's another great thing about fall. It finally feels like football season. This weekend we will be doing more of the same...

Were you able to get out an enjoy fall this past week? Whatever that means for you. Parks, football, maybe some jeans instead of shorts all day long? Make memories. =)

Eight is Great!

Today Kenzie is EIGHT! It's so crazy. We have an 8 year old. Only two years away from double digits. A third grader. A girl that is quickly becoming a preteen. There is only a year left (technically) until that is officially the stage we are in. Though I have to say... she acts more and more like an actual preteen every day of her life. She's too much. We often joke that she is 8 going on 28, but in all honesty, she is an old soul and often acts much older than her years. At 8-years-old, Kenzie... - Is still the friendliest kid I know. She loves with her whole heart. She hates to hurt anyone's feelings. The downside is that her feelings get hit hard when someone isn't nice to her. We have had to deal with that on occasion, especially in the last year when we had a run in with a girl that Kenzie thought was her friend but she ended up being not really nice to Kenzie in the long run. We learned as parents that the "mean girl" stage starts early. Kenzie...

13 Weeks to 13 Miles! OUC Orlando Half Marathon Training: Week 7

This is it. This is officially the middle week of the 13 weeks to 13 miles training plan. It's the odd man out week. It is also the week after our rest week and the week that things really start to pick up speed. We have mostly done overall low mileage weeks up until this point topping out at 13 miles which is overall less than the half marathon... by a measly .1 mile but that mileage was all divvied up over 3 runs so it's definitely not the same. Now we start ramping up and we don't slow down until the week before the race when we essentially taper. This week is an overall 15 miles and by the end, we will top out at 22 weekly miles. Eek. We can do it! I know we can. I hope. Haha! Tuesday Plan: 4 Miles, Actual: 4 Miles Whew! Another run in the books. This one was probably one of the worst ones so far. Not because I didn't run okay. I was actually fine for most of the run. I kept my 1:1 intervals and paced about 13:30 without too many outliers as far as timing goes. ...

New State Parks, Beaches, Movies, and Friend Time

Another weekend has been put in the books for the Young Household. This weekend was actually a bit less crazy than some of our others, I think but still filled with fun and some new things. We started Friday afternoon when Steven was able to come home an hour or so early. We started getting ready for our big Saturday plans and then made pizza and sat down to watch a movie. We love this Friday tradition. We try to do it at least a couple times a month. We used to order pizza but when we started watching our finances closer, we determined that it was better for us to make pizza either homemade or frozen (and the kids like frozen pizza as much as pizza from a restaurant right now so we will continue to capitalize on that for a while... Will loves homemade but Kenzie is in a current anti-homemade stage because she is weird). Anyway, we made a frozen pizza and some cheesy bread. Then we sat down together to watch Inside Out. We picked it up at the library last week and never had a chance ...
