Bring on Summer - Summer Bucket List 2017

Well, Memorial Day is two weeks away and although summer doesn't officially begin for a few weeks after that, Memorial Day serves as a sort of break in timing for us and at that point we consider it to be "summer". This means that our Spring Happenings List is just about over. In reality, we have gone as far as we likely can with it. Here was our initial list:

UCF Basketball Game

UCF Baseball Game
Touch A Truck Event at UCF
Pinkilicious: The Musical (for Kenzie and myself)
Orlando Science Center
Becoming Junior Rangers at a Florida state park (for the kids...  )
Visiting a few new state parks that we haven't been to before
St. Augustine Alligator Farm
St. Augustine Lighthouse
Movie Night at the Apopka Amphitheater
Strawberry Picking
Disney Trips

We ended up doing a lot of the things we hoped. The only thing that didn't happen for us was becoming Junior Rangers. We picked up the packets when we bought our annual pass to the state parks but we haven't completed everything yet. It is a bit old for Will and Kenzie is even bordering on being young so we didn't push it much. We will do it one of these years and maybe start working on it over the summer. Also, as far as Disney goes, we never made it out to Animal Kingdom. Our blockout dates start again on June 5 so we likely won't make it before that but this is sort of a period we like because it gets us away from Disney for a while and makes it that much more fun when we get back in the fall. Plus, it is way too hot for Disney this time of year. We will gladly wait a few months. I never blogged our visit to Magic Kingdom last weekend but it was a lot of fun. Getting Will an autograph book has been all he needs to become more excited about characters. We finally got Kenzie back on Barnstormer but I don't think she will be going on again anytime soon. Will LOVED it though. The train and speedway were a highlight for Will. Kenzie loved meeting Tiana for the first time (which was the real reason behind our visit really). It was a blast. Every time we go there is something different or new for us. This time, it was the new fireworks show. It was phenomenal. I think it might be better than Wishes. Gasp! Don't tell the die hard Disney people I said that. It was so great though and I can't wait to go in the fall when we can get closer to the castle to see it better. Anyway, with that trip, we did all we plan to do more than likely and are officially hanging out waiting on summer. We have a beach trip, concert for Steven and myself, Cinderella tea for Nana, Kenzie, and myself, and some room painting for Kenzie all planned in the couple of weeks leading up to Memorial Day and the official start of the summer bucket list.

So, out with the Spring Happenings list and in with the Summer Bucket List. We ended up modifying some of the things we had last year and keeping a few in the rotation. Some things were so much fun that we HAD to bring them back this year. We also added a few new items and I'm sure some things will get added along with way much like some things were added this spring. Last year we had a few things we never got to but we still had so much fun! Having this list sort of keeps us rolling in the summer. We love to do things as a family and this helps us make sure we get to some things that otherwise we would likely get to the end of the summer and suddenly remember that we wanted to do. Plus, once we hit the school year this year, we are definitely going to be shorter on time. While it was an adjustment having Kenzie in school half days four days a week this last year, next year she is in school full time and we refuse to remove her from school unless absolutely necessary (plus, a big deal was made about it at her orientation by the principal and teachers because they do not want us to pull them for random reasons if we don't have to and we fully support that thought process). Anyway, here is our list for this year. The main change we made was that we also included a few things that we KNOW we will be doing. Last year we tried to avoid this but this year we added them just because we knew it would help us with planning weekends and keep us rolling. One main thing we know we will do that we didn't add because there are too many things within it and it would make the list seem really long unnecessarily is our Keys Vacay. We have so much planned but it isn't going on the list.

As is typical for this family, we have a lot planned. I think we have a good shot at getting a lot of this done this year. We did so much last year and this isn't much more than that if we plan our time well. Usually we are pretty good at that so I think we are set. We are excited to get started and see where this summer takes us.

Welcome Back to Your Regularly Scheduled Programming

It's almost time! School is upon us. The kids in our county return on Wednesday. Kenzie's first day of school is next Tuesday. Monday we will have Meet the Teacher during the day and then Tuesday will be her first day of VPK. More on all that in a minute... This week though officially started our return to normalcy. It's about time! Kenzie started back to dance on Monday. The fall season started and she was so excited. She was asking me all day about when it would be time to go to dance. She was just so ready to get back to it. This season/year we have elected to stay with the same teacher she had last year, Ms. Rebekah. Kenzie loved her so it seemed like a great bet when we found out that she was going to be teaching Pre-K 2. This year will be a lot like last year in that they will do ballet, tap, and tumbling but the skills we be more advanced. More "dance language" will be used (though Ms. Rebekah has always focused on giving them proper terminology anyway)...

Eight is Great!

Today Kenzie is EIGHT! It's so crazy. We have an 8 year old. Only two years away from double digits. A third grader. A girl that is quickly becoming a preteen. There is only a year left (technically) until that is officially the stage we are in. Though I have to say... she acts more and more like an actual preteen every day of her life. She's too much. We often joke that she is 8 going on 28, but in all honesty, she is an old soul and often acts much older than her years. At 8-years-old, Kenzie... - Is still the friendliest kid I know. She loves with her whole heart. She hates to hurt anyone's feelings. The downside is that her feelings get hit hard when someone isn't nice to her. We have had to deal with that on occasion, especially in the last year when we had a run in with a girl that Kenzie thought was her friend but she ended up being not really nice to Kenzie in the long run. We learned as parents that the "mean girl" stage starts early. Kenzie...

Goodbye Preschool... Hello Elementary School!

Bear with me... this post is not only about Kenzie's final day at school but all the crazy things (they are just crazy to me because I can't believe that little 7 lbs 6 oz baby is about to be in kindergarten) leading up to it that are preparing her for being a kindergartener so it is a bit long. Aaaaannnnndddd... That's it. We have reached the end of an era for Kenzie. At least the end of a stage of sorts. We have officially left behind the preschool stage and are getting ready to embark on the "school age" section of her life. These last few weeks have been... emotional. About three weeks ago we took our happy selves over to the elementary school and attended the kindergarten orientation for our baby girl. Who isn't actually much of a "baby" anymore despite my protests. We were able to take a tour of the school and see some of the kindergarten classrooms, the specials classrooms, cafeteria, clinic, and media center. The kids were all given t...
