Young Summer of Fun - Bucket List Update (Week 8 - Kenzie's Birthday Week and Weekend)

This week has been jam packed. Not because we did a ton of stuff that might have been out of our norm, but because we were prepping for a certain little lady's fourth birthday party. Plus, Steven's work situation continued to be super busy so he was not home much at the beginning of the week.

We started our week by hitting up the fountains in Winter Garden with our neighbor and her little girl. The kids seem okay with this type of "splash pad" but definitely prefer the more true splash pads. This is just fountains that shoot up in the air so there isn't as much interaction with them as there would be at a real splash pad. It still provides some fun and a reprieve from the heat for a little while. We got there right at 9 when they turn the fountains on and stayed for about an hour. Kenzie had fun in the actual fountains. Will found a deep-ish puddle to play in. Haha! The fountains themselves are sort of strong and shoot up pretty forcefully so they continue to be slightly too much for Will. He still has fun though. We left just in time as a huge camp group showed up right as we were packing up. It was about to get crazy in there. And knowing our eldest child, she would have been right in the thick of it trying to make friends. The problem was that they were bigger than her. Probably 6-10 years old so it was probably about to get pretty hectic.

We spent a lot of the week just prepping for the party. Last minute grocery shopping, cleaning, organizing everything and straightening up the garage some as we had a great idea last minute to move the entire party outside. We figured we could still allow people to come in if it was just too hot, but we were planning to encourage everyone to make do outside so that my house would not be nearly as messy. The mess stresses me out. Haha!

While trying to type up a response to a text message on Tuesday night my phone died. Apparently it was a manufacturer defect and while I don't care about not having a phone for a couple of days other than that whole not able to call anyone if I need something thing, I was upset because I had a couple of pics and videos that I had not yet backed up to my hard drive. Luckily, I just did a back up a few days ago so I have most of my things, but I lost a couple of the fountains. So, if the quality of what I posted looks iffy, it's because I had to pull them from Facebook. =(

We did our normal story time on Wednesday and stayed for the craft afterwards. Kenzie was pretty excited to make a Pokemon bracelet despite not knowing what Pokemon is. She just likes bracelets. Will was just happy to have a bracelet even though he pulled everything off of his in about 3.2 seconds. Nothing new there. About par for the course with an almost 2-year-old. (Did you catch that? Freaking almost 2... as in less than 3 months away from 2. Eek!! That's another story for another time though.)

Thursday started some of our serious celebration for Kenzie's birthday. Steven had to work part of the day (even though he already had well over enough hours to be done working on Wednesday) so we did some stuff around the house and waited for him to get home. The kids played outside in the sprinkler with the girls (our neighbors' kids) and Kenzie was soaked. She had a blast though. Will had fun but didn't really go in the sprinkler. He just likes being outside. We have a tradition around birthdays and half birthdays (for the kids... not for us) of going to Cici's. It's nothing super crazy but the kids LOVE Cici's so this is right up their alley and it just sort of stuck after the first time we did it with Kenzie. Since we were going to have her actual party on her birthday this year, we knew we wouldn't want to go down to Cici's after the party and the big day the kids were going to have so we moved it up to Thursday. We kept it as a surprise for her but she knew we were going to do some special things as we worked our way towards her birthday. She was pretty excited and both kids at a TON.

After Cici's we came home and sat the kids down to watch Tangled. Kenzie LOVES Rapunzel despite never seeing the movie and it was on TV a week or so ago. We recorded it but didn't tell her. So, we let the kids have some popcorn and watch the movie. I also painted Kenzie's toenails during the movie so she would have pretty toes for her party. I chose to do it during the movie because I knew she would stay still watching TV for a while and wouldn't mess it up as easily. I usually use a quick dry nail polish, but she also wanted this sparkly green stuff and it definitely wasn't quick dry so I knew she needed to sit for an extended period of time. Hard to get her to do. They turned out pretty cute and she was super happy. They finished about 1/2 the movie and then we sent them off to bed because we knew Friday was going to be busy as well.

Friday we had an awesome day. We started our morning by taking the kiddos to Lucky Monkey. (So we can check that off the bucket list.) This was actually the one thing we put on the bucket list that I sort of knew we would be doing. I mentioned before that I tried to only put things that aren't normal for us, but this one was a big-ish deal for us so I put it on... plus, I knew that if we did it, we would do it as a family so it seemed bucket list worthy. Anyway, Lucky Monkey is this large indoor play area with bounce houses and other fun games. I took the kids once for a birthday party and Kenzie thought she wanted to have her birthday party there this year. We liked the idea, but we wanted to wait until we were inviting more kids to her parties so instead of doing her birthday there, we elected to just take her (and Will) there around her birthday. I'm hoping we can take a trip back around Will's birthday. She was so excited that we did it on a day that Daddy could go with us too. The kids were sort of like pinballs. They just ran from one thing to another. For two hours. They were so tired by the time we dragged them out of there for lunch. We let Kenzie pick lunch and she gave us the answer we totally expected... McDonalds. After a couple of happy meals for the kids, we went home for nap/rest time. Can I just take a minute to mention how much these kids can eat when they want to?? We are going to go broke feeding them. They both polished off full happy meals (and Kenzie eats the bigger kids' meal at most places)... and then they ask for some of our food sometimes too. It is getting ridiculous.

Friday night we met up with Mike, Sevi, and Baby Reilly. We were so excited that they were able to make it up from South Florida for Kenzie's party. When they got into town we met them at Wing House for dinner. We finally got to meet little Reilly. He is such a cutie. The kids had a great time seeing them (as did we) and dinner was yummy. We were able to spend some time catching up since we haven't seen them since right before Reilly was born. As in, literally the weekend before because he decided to show up early.

We ended up getting home super late (for us) and both kids were OUT when we go home. We did some birthday set up and they slept in late the next morning. Saturday was Kenzie's birthday!! Both her actual birthday and her party. I'm not going to recap all of that again, but if anyone is interested and hasn't read them yet, we have her 4 year letter and her birthday party recap for your reading pleasure. =) It was a blast.

We were all so tired at the end of the day on Saturday that we all fell right into bed. Sunday was not really an abnormal day for us. We got up and went to church. In all honesty, I'm sort of surprised we all made it. I was just so tired. We try not to miss it though if we can help it. After nap/rest time on Sunday we ended up going to Target and getting Kenzie's first day of school outfit, new shoes, lunchbox, and a new camelbak for school. She was pretty excited. School is just 15 days away and I think she is ready to go back. I miss her when she is in school, but I have to admit to sort of looking forward to having just Will alone for a few hours 4 days a week. I like being able to give him some undivided attention, too.

This was a crazy weekend, but it officially let us bring July to a close. We have a lot going on next weekend as we are going to stay with Grandma and Grandaddy for the weekend. It should be fun. Hopefully the week will be a bit slower though because I need some rest and prep time before another busy weekend. August is less busy than July but is still shaping up to be pretty jam packed. We only have about a month left of summer and we still have some big things to knock off of our bucket list, so we will see if we get to them. I hope we can. =)

Ushering in Five-and-a-half

No. Nope. Not happening. Not even close.... but it is. As of tomorrow, Will is officially five-and-a-half. Halfway to six. SIX. What on earth? Both of our kids need to slow their roll and take it down a notch. It's so crazy to think that Will is going to be six in just six short months. He will start Kindergarten soon. He is already registered and ready to go. He is growing up so fast right before our eyes and it is a happy and sad time for me as Mama, for sure. So, a short update on Will at 5-and-a-half... - Will is growing like a weed. It is not uncommon right now for people to ask me if he has grown inches upon inches overnight. We are noticing that he is catching up to Kenzie fairly quickly and some of his friends that he used to be very similar in height to, he has gotten slightly taller than them. It's just his growth spurt time, apparently.  He remains remarkably skinny. So skinny that his clothes tend to fall of of him if we don't have adjustable waists. T...

Preschool Done.... One Step Closer to MIT

So, here it is. The end of "preschool." Note: "Preschool" and "VPK" are not used interchangeably for the purpose of our discussion. In the sense of the word, Kenzie is done with "preschool" and next year will be in "VPK". Eek! That's not allowed. Kenzie's first official year in school is now done. She is one year older, one year wiser, one year more stubborn. It's crazy for us to think back that just a few short months ago we were going to her Meet the Teacher day and we were both having some major anxiety about our baby going to school. I remember the first day of school plain as day. I thought she might have some apprehension. Nope. None. I probably shouldn't have been surprised. Kenzie went in like she owned the place. There was a day that her teacher mentioned that Kenzie was one of the quiet ones in the class and rarely spoke. I'm still not sure that she was thinking of my Kenzie. Maybe I had been dropping of...

Eight is Great!

Today Kenzie is EIGHT! It's so crazy. We have an 8 year old. Only two years away from double digits. A third grader. A girl that is quickly becoming a preteen. There is only a year left (technically) until that is officially the stage we are in. Though I have to say... she acts more and more like an actual preteen every day of her life. She's too much. We often joke that she is 8 going on 28, but in all honesty, she is an old soul and often acts much older than her years. At 8-years-old, Kenzie... - Is still the friendliest kid I know. She loves with her whole heart. She hates to hurt anyone's feelings. The downside is that her feelings get hit hard when someone isn't nice to her. We have had to deal with that on occasion, especially in the last year when we had a run in with a girl that Kenzie thought was her friend but she ended up being not really nice to Kenzie in the long run. We learned as parents that the "mean girl" stage starts early. Kenzie...
