Keys Vacation 2015 Day 1: Apopka to South Florida

This morning we woke up bright and early. Not so we could leave... nope. Mainly because both children decided that 6:30 is an acceptable wake up time. Needless to say, that meant that we were both ready to get going earlier than we initially anticipated. Steven dropped Jack off at his doggy hotel for the week and then we loaded up the car. That was quite the feat. I remember the days that we would go on a trip with one (maybe two) suitcases. If it was a beach trip, we also brought a beach bag and maybe a snorkel and fins. Now... we have to pack up 1/2 our home. Traveling with a toddler and an infant is ridiculous.

Once we finished playing adult tetris and had everything (and everyone) in the car, we headed out. The drive was fairly uneventful. Will located a wipes container in the back (it was soft) that he then chewed on until he finally dropped it to his side. Then he attempted to chew on Kenzie's backpack until I removed it from his possession because we didn't want it laying across his face. Then he cried to voice his displeasure with me. Eventually he fell asleep and he slept until we stopped in Fort Pierce for lunch.

We ended up eating at Steak n Shake. It was a nice, but quick, escape from the car. Will did great during lunch and actually let all of us eat without any issues. Kenzie enjoyed her hot dog and before we knew it, we were back on the road again.

We drove through a bit of rain on the way to Mike and Sevie's house but it stopped before we got here. Kenzie was super excited to make it to their house so she could see their cats. She had a ball chasing those poor (okay, just Whiskey) around the house. Poor cat. Kenzie also loved the window at the front of their house. I think she might ask for us to install one when we get home. She could watch the entire neighborhood.

We went to Quarterdeck for dinner. It was pretty yummy. Again, Will did great at dinner and Kenzie enjoyed her chicken tenders (specifically tenders... she requested tenders, not nuggets). After dinner we came back to their house and got the kids ready for bed. We are now sitting and watching cooking shows on TV. Apparently, Mike doesn't cook but he enjoys watching others do it... I'm not sure why.

Tomorrow we are going to hang around South Florida. I have major plans to take Kenzie by the park that Steven, Aunt Juju, and Mike used to play at when they were kids and take pics of her playing there. Priorities, people. =) I think we are also planning on hitting up LaSpada's. I've never actually been there, but people speak so highly of it so I'm pretty excited about that too.

It's nice to visit with friends and I am looking forward to hitting the keys on Monday. So far the kids are doing great. Hopefully it will continue this way and we will have an awesome family vacation. =)

Young Summer of Fun - Bucket List Update (Week 12)

Honestly, I debated doing a weekly update for this week because we didn't actually check anything off the summer bucket list... but decided to go ahead and do it because we did do some fun stuff. Plus, there are only two more weeks of this (including this one) so anyone that is actually interested can read it if they want. =) This week was fairly low key. Steven was dealing with his shingles diagnosis so we didn't do anything too crazy because the main reason he likely came down with it was because he is so run down and stressed out. Kenzie had school all week. Well, except Monday but on Monday's, we dance. She did great at dance by the way! She goes to dance each week and then spends the next 6 days asking us if she has dance. We made her a calendar for the fridge that lists her activities and dance is on it. We cross off each day so she can count down to dance. Doesn't matter. She still asks. Wishful thinking, I guess. And she is still rocking school. She is doing...

Spending Time At The Family Dinner Table

I set a few new goals for this school year. I have big plans. Always. Haha! Anyway, my goal has been to try to add one new recipe per week to our rotation of meals as well as use our slow cooker once a week. So far, we have been doing pretty well and so far, we have enjoyed all of our new meals. We did have a week of set back so far when we had no power after Hurricane Irma so that we didn't make any new meals or anything. The current week was another difficult week as we had to spend money restocking some essentials in our kitchen that we lost due to the power outage so we had to hold off on anything new this week, as well. The main goal of all of this has been to add new recipes but also make sure that we are spending time at the dinner table as a family. This is something we have tried to do since our kids have been old enough to understand eating dinner as a family. BC (Before Children) and even when Kenzie was small, we ate in the living room while watching TV a lot, but as ...

Swimming Lessons 2017

This year we returned to Sunny Days Swim School and Ms. Shunda for the kids' swimming lessons. We are so glad we did. We seriously love Ms. Shunda. She is amazing. For anyone that hasn't heard about the kids' lessons before, she teaches Red Cross Certified lessons. It isn't the ISR type of lesson like a lot of children do. Instead, it teaches the kids how to swim and get themselves out of a pool if they fall in (like ISR) but also teaches the basics of beginning swimming such as the freestyle stroke, backstroke, and things like that to build up to more advanced skills later. I think ISR is great for most kids, but it didn't seem like the best fit for our kiddos. They both seem to do so well with the more "traditional" lessons but we required that they be one-on-one in the pool and still focused initially on survival skills. Being that both kids are still in the "preschool aquatics" section though so it is more about survival skills with the la...
