Happy 6th Birthday, Kenzie!

Dear Kenzie,

I can't believe it! You are six-years-old now! That is crazy. If someone asks you to show you how old you are (which doesn't happen really at 6 but let's pretend for a moment), it would take you two hands. TWO!

You continue to grow and grow... and grow. It isn't uncommon for people to still think you are somewhat older than you are. At this point you are 47 inches tall (81st percentile) and you weigh 48.6 pounds (55th percentile in weight for height). You are still tall and thin. Nothing new there. The doc noticed a slight assymetry in your back this year so we are going to be monitoring that. Scoliosis runs in the family so you are at a  higher risk. You may require an x-ray next year. You wear a size 7-8 in most shorts and pants. Every now and then you can fit into a 6 but it's rare nowadays. In shirts you are usually wearing a 7-8 or medium as well. Dresses are more of the same. You wear a 12 to 13  in shoes... but your school shoes that we just bought yesterday are a 13.5. You are going to be in bigger kid sizes before we know it! Your blonde hair is still hanging around even though it has darkened slightly. The more time you spend outside though (and you spend a lot of time outside), the lighter it gets but it never gets as light as it once was. Since you spend so much time outside you have developed the most amazing freckles on your face. I love every one of them. You also have quite the tan though you are so light to begin with, most people probably don't notice it. As of right now you have lost 6 teeth. Two have fully grown back in, two are on their way, and two are still MIA but we expect they will show up fairly soon. One major physical thing did happen for you this year... you got glasses!! You came home one day with a letter that you didn't pass a vision screening at school and the recommendation was to take you to the eye doctor. Lo and behold you have an astigmatism in your right eye and you needed glasses. You took really well to wearing them since you have to wear them all the time. You never complained, you rarely took them off unless you had to, and you almost always remember to put them on in the morning. We have been really proud of you and how well you have done with them. You also look super adorable in glasses. It was odd to see you in them at first, but now we realized almost immediately when they aren't on because we have become so used to seeing you in them. To celebrate turning 6 you had your ears pierced! You cried and we had to use a numbing cream to get you to do it but you did amazing and you love the new accessory.

This year you finished kindergarten. And you rocked it! You took to elementary school so easily. You made friends quickly and you loved your teacher. By the end of the year, you were reading on grade level as expected and your math was rated as being on grade level but we actually know that you can do a lot of things that are above expectation. You can count by 1's, 2's, 3's, 5's, and 10's and more if you think about it. You can add, subtract, and even do some multiplication. You can read an analog clock and are learning to count coins better. You recognize them but you have a bit more trouble remembering how much each coin is worth. You love all the specials that your school offers. You have learned how to play a ton of new sports this year in PE, you learned about reading some music this year in Music, and you learned a ton about different artists and art techniques this year in Art. Art is definitely your favorite. You are often found coloring, painting, creating cards for others, or crafting your own art projects. Art has even sort of taken place of Legos and puzzles for the most part. You still like to do those activities, but you don't do them nearly as often as you once did as you would rather do something with art.

You ran your first real race this year. You did awesome running the Smile Mile race and you were bitten by the running bug for sure. You ran a half mile in your race and are excited to run a full mile next year at the same race. You have also continued to run kids' races at some of the races that Daddy and I do. You always love finishing a race and you often ask to go running with us when we are home and getting ready to go for walks. You love to play outside and have gotten really good at riding your bike with training wheels. You aren't quite ready for us to remove the training wheels yet but I imagine you may be in the next year or so. We aren't in a rush really so one day we will just have to try it. You are really good on your scooter and you also like to play soccer or teeball outside. You love going to Disney and riding rides or seeing characters. You love the beach and can spend all day hanging out in shallow water or digging in the sand with your brother. Going to church is high on the list of things you want to do as often as possible. You love learning about Bible stories and seeing everyone at church. VBS has been so fun for you this year and you learned so much. At one of the VBS you attended you told your leader that you prayed the prayer to ask Jesus into your heart. We are so proud of you for making that choice on your own and we can't wait to watch you grow in your faith.

You have continued dance this year and you finished a year in the Combo 1 Ballet/Jazz class. You learned so much and you loved every minute of it. You did so well in your recital this year and we noticed how much easier it was for you to learn the dance on your own and not require as much help to remember it by watching your teacher do it. You rocked swimming lessons this year. Seriously. You are like a little fish. All of a sudden, everything clicked. You can swim easily from one end of a pool to another without any help.  You know what each stroke is called. You can swim freestyle and the backstroke with no issues. You finally figured out how to float which was really the key for you. You can dive down for toys and you are working on figuring out how to do a handstand in the pool with help. We are so amazed with how much you have learned this year in swimming and how it all clicked for you. This year you became a Girl Scout! It has been such a fun year for you. You have made a lot of new friends and you love when we get to do Girl Scout activities. You finished your first year of Daisies and earned all of your petals. You have another year of Daisies before you will bridge to Brownies.

Sass. That's all I have to say about that. If I thought you were sassy last year when you turned 5, I had no idea what was coming in the next  year. The serious know-it-all stage has hit you hard. You sometimes say things that make us want to die laughing.. but we can't because then it just encourages you. Sometimes it is like listening to myself talk back to me though. We try to make sure that you are still respectful but sometimes... the sass is strong with this one. Definitely 6, going on 16.

Your eating habits haven't changed a whole lot in the last year. You are still fairly picky but you are at least willing to eat some things that are good for you. Haha! Well, we try to make sure you don't eat a lot of junk but veggies are still not high on your list. You eat a lot though. At least in the last few months. You are seemingly in a constant growth spurt. You don't put on weight very quickly but you seem a bit taller every time we look at you. You still sleep about 11 hours a night. You wake early despite what time we put you to bed so your bedtime is usually around 7:30 and you will be up in the morning around 7. We do find that during the school year, you sleep in a bit more but we either wake you up by about 7:15 for school or you wake up on your own shortly thereafter usually.

You love spending time with your friends and the family. You and Will are really good buddies despite the fact that he drives you a bit crazy at times. You would walk to the end of the earth for him (and he would do the same for you). You love to spend time with your "Daddy Boy" and have girl time with Mommy. When we visit family, you are always very excited to see everyone. You love to play with your friends and get very excited when we have play dates. You are a social butterfly. At the same time, you are often okay spending time alone.

I can't believe how big you are now. You continue to light up our lives. You make us smile, laugh, and always give the best hugs. We love you to the moon and back, baby girl!

XOXO,
Mommy

14 Weeks... Welcome to the Second Trimester!

Baby’s Size: Lemon How far along:  14 Weeks Total weight gain: 2 lbs and I am still okay with that. Sleep:  Pretty good. I can’t complain at this point. Maternity Clothes:  Finally broke out the maternity shirts. Just one at this point and mainly so that my stomach wouldn’t stick out.  Food cravings:  Nothing really. I’m pretty boring when it comes to this. I was last time too…    Food aversions: Nothing other than those dumb burritos at this point.      Symptoms I HAVE: I’m feeling pretty good. I did notice that my c-section scar has been really dark this past week. I have no idea why. Doctor’s Appointment:  May 5 th . Still wai

A Day In the Life... Sheltered in Place Edition

Being home non-stop has made me want to start paying more attention to the blog again. Though, I think I am going to keep with only using this as a place to store memories mostly for myself and our family to read later. I guess I will continue to share the big things, like Will's 1/2 birthday post this week. We'll see. Anyway...  So this is not the first time I have done a "Day In The Life" style post, but this one is way different than our normal. I made a post about the whole Shelter In Place a couple of weeks ago. We have settled into a sort of schedule or routine so I wanted to document that for our own memories. One day we will back to running around like crazy people trying to get it all done, and I think it will be interesting to remember what life was life during our shelter in place time. This post is typical of our weekdays. Our weekends are less structured and more family time. During the week, we have distance learning and working going on so we k

Happy Fourth of July!!! (A Few Days Late...)

There is no way I was going to get around to posting this blog prior to now. It has been a crazy week or so since my birthday. I couldn't let the holiday pass (too much) without recapping it. =) I barely remember July 4th last year. I know that we didn't do anything. Kenzie was almost a year old, had a bed time that I didn't want to mess up, and we were afraid she might be scared of the fireworks so we sat at home, did our usual and went to bed while our neighbors were still lighting fireworks off. We spent the night playing every American's favorite game... "Firework or gunshot?" In our neck of the woods... you never can tell. Might be someone having a bit of target practice. Regardless, this year we decided to throw caution to the wind and attempt to enjoy some actual fireworks. Every year there is a big to do down at Lake Eola. We have been before (or at least gotten pretty close because we had some friends that lived downtown and we could see the
