Just Keep Dancing - Dance Recap 2018

I promised I would write up a quick recap of Kenzie's year in dance to document how she did and what it was like.

This year she took a Combo 1 Ballet/Jazz class. Last season when we talked about it, she decided to go with jazz rather than tap (in addition to ballet that is taught with both classes) and I think she is so glad that she did. It was her first year with a different teacher as she had the same teacher for Pre-K 1 and 2. Her teacher this year was amazing. So great in fact that we signed up for her Combo 2 class next season and Kenzie is very excited.

Kenzie has really grown this year. She loves jazz. Her recital dance this year was jazz and I think she actually found it a fun break from ballet. She likes ballet and I once thought that is where she may want to focus once she finishes the combo classes, but I could see her choosing jazz now. She has another year of combo so we will see what she decides at the end of next season.

Her recital was this past weekend and she did great! She looked so adorable in her costume (that was a fun change from the typical pink you see a lot at this age). She didn't even need to look at her teacher or teacher assistant too often during the dance. Every year she gets more and more confident (and her memory improves apparently).

We are so proud of how well she has done and can't wait to see how she progresses next season.

I so want to make her something with that phrase on it. I'm just deciding what. I'm in <3 with it.

And her recital her first year in dance compared to the most recent year. Who is this kid that just keeps getting older and more mature looking?!?

Ushering in Five-and-a-half

No. Nope. Not happening. Not even close.... but it is. As of tomorrow, Will is officially five-and-a-half. Halfway to six. SIX. What on earth? Both of our kids need to slow their roll and take it down a notch. It's so crazy to think that Will is going to be six in just six short months. He will start Kindergarten soon. He is already registered and ready to go. He is growing up so fast right before our eyes and it is a happy and sad time for me as Mama, for sure. So, a short update on Will at 5-and-a-half... - Will is growing like a weed. It is not uncommon right now for people to ask me if he has grown inches upon inches overnight. We are noticing that he is catching up to Kenzie fairly quickly and some of his friends that he used to be very similar in height to, he has gotten slightly taller than them. It's just his growth spurt time, apparently.  He remains remarkably skinny. So skinny that his clothes tend to fall of of him if we don't have adjustable waists. T...

Making the Most of Spring Break

This is the first year that "Spring Break" actually seemed like a thing instead of just another random week. I think that is because Kenzie is in school 4 days a week this year so it is more like "real" school rather than the 2 days a week that was preschool last year. So, I wanted to try to make Spring Break fun and something different instead of just spending it like another week. We were limited in what we could do because Steven has been super busy at work and couldn't take any additional time off. We already have his days planned out for the entire year so that he can take a few days here and there for specific things but keep a good balance of days in case something comes up and we need them. So, I had to come up with some things that we don't typically do every day but that were easy enough for me to handle two small children during and that were inexpensive/free. Side note: We turned in all the paperwork to enroll Will in preschool next year this l...

This is Seven... and-a-half

Today is Kenzie's half birthday! We kind of have a thing about half birthdays around here. We don't do anything major, but we like to mark their appearance because it is fun for the kids to know that they are officially halfway to their next birthday. It's a bit bittersweet for me though. As is the usual, here is a brief update on all things Kenzie. - She is still really tall. She is somewhere around 53.5 inches or so. I honestly don't know for sure. They are so hard to measure on my own. It's about 2.5 inches taller than 6 months ago so I think that could be about right. Either way, most of her height remains in her legs. - She is so amazing at math. Seriously, this kid got all her Daddy's math brains. Thankfully. Her teacher made the comment at parent teacher conference that she was so excited to see her best math student this year is a girl. She just figures out math problems super easily. She also loves it. She asks us to play math games with her o...
