Three more weeks of summer (minus the weekend coming up which will likely have its own post hence the reason this post doesn't include Week 4) have passed now. I decided to combine these weeks as far as blogging goes because minimal happened most of that time.
Steven has been traveling a lot lately. He doesn't go too far necessarily as he is only in Melbourne, but it is far enough that he has to stay overnight when he is there. He has been gone 3-5 days a week for three weeks now. It's been tough at times for all of us. We made it work though and now we are hoping he is done for a while. He was supposed to have to go back next week for a day or two but we think he has gotten enough done that he won't need to for a while. Anyway, while all that was going on, I was holding down the Young fort over here. It also meant that we were all tired and not much happened for the bucket list.
We did end up making it to a movie in the theater while Steven was gone. We decided to take advantage of one of the $1 Summer Movies at Regal one Wednesday. I knew that they were playing Trolls and thought the kids would like it. It was pretty crowded. I don't know why I didn't expect that but I didn't think it would be so crowded. Luckily, we were early so we were one of the first groups in line and were able to choose our seats without any issues. I had no idea until I was in there that they make booster seats for movie theaters but I'm glad I found that out. It worked out really well as neither kid had to sit on my lap much. We stopped beforehand and picked up some snacks at the dollar store so that we didn't have to spend an arm and leg on popcorn while in the theater. Those snacks also helped to keep the kids busy. We made it through the entire movie (which was actually really cute) and the kids seemed to like it. The one thing I wasn't sure about was what would happen if one of the kids had to potty but luckily, they both made it through the movie without issue. Our plan for this long weekend coming up is to go to see Cars 3 as a family. We have watched Cars and now own Cars 2 so the kids have seen the others and they have asked often if we can go see Cars 3 so we thought it would be fun. We just aren't excited about the price tag that is likely going to come with taking 4 people to the movies.
We also had a movie and popcorn night at the house. I mentioned that we own Cars 2 but that is because we got it just last weekend and watched it at home with popcorn. The kids enjoyed it. I think they liked the original Cars better but I've heard Cars 3 is good so we are looking forward to that. They say they liked Cars 2 though and they did sit down to watch it. Though it took 2 nights just because of how late we started it on night 1.
Another item we checked off the list in the last week was Kenzie attending Vacation Bible School (VBS). She is loving it. She has been 2 days now and will finish up the rest of this week. She is attending Gadgets and Gizmos at Journey Christian Church. This is the first of two VBS weeks she will do this summer. It set a high bar for sure. She has come home every day so far super excited about what she did and what she learned that day. Most of the stories she has been told so far are ones she already knew from school or church but she still told me all about them each day with such enthusiasm. This is a really large VBS and the one that we paid a small fee for. She was given a shirt, backpack, bracelet, lanyard with ID tag, and has been coming home with other random things for the last two days. She also gets a snack every day which makes her happy. Especially since I think we are back in a growth spurt period with her and she is eating everything in sight. Kenzie liked the "things" but she definitely seems to be liking the entire experience more. She would have loved it even without the extra "stuff". They also sent us a CD about a month ago with all the songs that they would sing during worship. We have been listening to it almost non-stop any time we are in the car and all of us know the words at this point. She was so excited after that first day when they sang a couple of the songs and just got more excited after day 2 when they sand more songs. She is excited to see what they sing tomorrow and the rest of the week. Now I just have to make her understand that the next VBS likely won't have as much stuff. I don't think she will have an issue with that though. Will has watched how excited she has been and keeps asking if he can go too. He asked the lady standing nearby as we checked Kenzie in today actually if he could go. It was so cute but he unfortunately isn't old enough yet and because of his age and how long before he is in kindergarten, he has quite a while to wait.
So, that's how our bucket list is going. It's going slowly but it's going. We have a few things checked off. Last summer we sort of winged it as far as planning went for the summer bucket list which was our initial plan for this summer but we have been so very busy that we decided to make a tentative schedule for some of our bigger items. We have a lot of fun things planned and plenty of smaller things that we will do whenever we can. Last year we finished almost everything but we are thinking we may have to leave more this year. We don't expect to finish it all. It's jut fun to have a list and see what new things we can get into.
In addition to the bucket list, we have done some other fun things over the last few weeks. We picked out Kenzie's big girl bed. We kept up with swimming lessons. We watched an awesome dance recital that our big girl performed in and did amazing. We have spent a ton of time in the pool as our little water babies make the request at least once per day to go to the pool. We've done some crafting including painting rocks to hide in Palm Coast this weekend. We have driven the Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive. We celebrated Father's Day and so much more.
We have a lot coming up in the next month. Saturday officially starts the month of July. Although just about everyone knows this, July is our crazy month. We literally don't stop. Even without added things going on, there is so much already built into July that we rarely sit down. This (long) weekend leading all the way to July 4, we have plans for a beach day, to celebrate my birthday, go to church, attend a friend's birthday party, go to the movies, maybe find some pool time, grill burgers (for my birthday because it's my favorite), run/walk a 5k (with Nana), go to a couple July 4 festivities maybe (but likely sit out the fireworks), and anything else we can come up with. And that's just a 4 day timespan. Like I said, July is crazy and we are ready to start it with a bang. Fourth of July pun intended...
