A Second A Day - January 2017

So we are officially one month into the new year. We have been working hard on our Second A Day project. Initially Steven seemed to think it was a bit silly. That was before we set it to music and it was longer than 10 seconds. Now, every day we put it all together and watch it a few times and just smile. We are loving doing this project. Seeing a full month come together has been awesome. To see an entire year come together is going to be so cool.

I think the hardest part of this challenge other than actually remembering to take a video every day, is thinking in a second at a time. I tend to take a lot of videos anyway but they are almost always of the kids. Our year long video is bound to be mostly kid related, but that doesn't mean it has to be everything. There are other things going on around here too that we might want to document. So, although I usually have at least one video a day that I could find a second worth of a clip to use for the video, sometimes we want something a bit different. And thinking in that second format is actually pretty difficult. If we are doing something that might work as a second or two long clip, I take a video and then at the end of the day, I choose the video that seems to work best as a second long clip and edit it down. Also, most of my videos border on 2 seconds so we are looking at just trying to keep the video for the entire year under 15-20 minutes at this point. Haha! It's mostly for us so we are going to be fine watching 15 minutes worth of our family over the course of a year. As far as the videos themselves, some videos do NOT work at all. Some are perfect. Some are okay and we just go with it because it's the best option we have. Either way, we are making it work and are really enjoying seeing it turn into a real video. Also, I'm coming to the realization that there are going to be some days that I cannot decide between 2 different videos. I'm debating the possibility of including both on just a few days but that takes away from the Second A Day thing... we will see how it turns out. As of right now, we have 1-2 seconds per day and 1 video each day. And we love it. Currently it ends sort of abruptly but I'm not going to worry about that until the end of the year when it needs an actual end. Once we are through our first song, we will change to include new songs along the way. I haven't chosen those yet. Also if/when I share it for each month through the year, I will likely not include the prior months so it will not be formally put together until the end of the year.

So with all of that being said...

Here is our January Second A Day video for anyone that might want to see some quick clips of what our family has been up to this month.

Enjoy!

Welcome Back to Your Regularly Scheduled Programming

It's almost time! School is upon us. The kids in our county return on Wednesday. Kenzie's first day of school is next Tuesday. Monday we will have Meet the Teacher during the day and then Tuesday will be her first day of VPK. More on all that in a minute... This week though officially started our return to normalcy. It's about time! Kenzie started back to dance on Monday. The fall season started and she was so excited. She was asking me all day about when it would be time to go to dance. She was just so ready to get back to it. This season/year we have elected to stay with the same teacher she had last year, Ms. Rebekah. Kenzie loved her so it seemed like a great bet when we found out that she was going to be teaching Pre-K 2. This year will be a lot like last year in that they will do ballet, tap, and tumbling but the skills we be more advanced. More "dance language" will be used (though Ms. Rebekah has always focused on giving them proper terminology anyway)...

Eight is Great!

Today Kenzie is EIGHT! It's so crazy. We have an 8 year old. Only two years away from double digits. A third grader. A girl that is quickly becoming a preteen. There is only a year left (technically) until that is officially the stage we are in. Though I have to say... she acts more and more like an actual preteen every day of her life. She's too much. We often joke that she is 8 going on 28, but in all honesty, she is an old soul and often acts much older than her years. At 8-years-old, Kenzie... - Is still the friendliest kid I know. She loves with her whole heart. She hates to hurt anyone's feelings. The downside is that her feelings get hit hard when someone isn't nice to her. We have had to deal with that on occasion, especially in the last year when we had a run in with a girl that Kenzie thought was her friend but she ended up being not really nice to Kenzie in the long run. We learned as parents that the "mean girl" stage starts early. Kenzie...

Goodbye Preschool... Hello Elementary School!

Bear with me... this post is not only about Kenzie's final day at school but all the crazy things (they are just crazy to me because I can't believe that little 7 lbs 6 oz baby is about to be in kindergarten) leading up to it that are preparing her for being a kindergartener so it is a bit long. Aaaaannnnndddd... That's it. We have reached the end of an era for Kenzie. At least the end of a stage of sorts. We have officially left behind the preschool stage and are getting ready to embark on the "school age" section of her life. These last few weeks have been... emotional. About three weeks ago we took our happy selves over to the elementary school and attended the kindergarten orientation for our baby girl. Who isn't actually much of a "baby" anymore despite my protests. We were able to take a tour of the school and see some of the kindergarten classrooms, the specials classrooms, cafeteria, clinic, and media center. The kids were all given t...
