Young Summer of Fun - Bucket List Update (Week 13 - Final Week)

Well, folks! This is it. The final week of our "summer" and therefore the end of our Summer Bucket List. We didn't get to everything, but we did do quite a bit and we loved all of it. Also, we have quite a few things that were technically "added on" but never truly added to the list. We did so much more than just the things on this list. We did one big one this weekend that was never on the list but has helped us cap off the Summer Bucket List. Plus, the big one this weekend was the perfect way for our football loving family to end the summer. We went out in style, that's for sure.

This week we didn't do too much during the week again (thanks to school and work) but we did have some fun visitors. My brother and sis-in-law were in town while my bro attended a class for work in the area. We spent Wednesday through Friday with them. Danielle hung out with us during the day when Rick was in his class and they came for dinner on Wednesday and Thursday. It was a lot of fun and really nice for me to have another adult to talk to during the day on a weekday. Haha!

First off, we had dance on Monday though. Kenzie did great, as usual. I love how much she enjoys it and watching her concentrate so hard sometimes to make sure she is learning new positions and everything correctly.

Wednesday night I made chicken parm for dinner for everyone. It was so yummy! Then we just hung out for a while and caught up. It was nice to spend some time with Uncle Rick and Aunt Danielle.

During the day Thursday, we played outside in the rain while Danielle went to get Rick from his class. The kids loved it. We play outside a lot, but this was especially fun because the bands from the hurricane were starting to come in so it was raining off and on. Meaning, puddles!! We also finally ate some of our homemade popsicles (made of 100% juice) from Kenzie's Frozen popsicle maker that Ms. Barbara (Momma/Nana #2) got her for her birthday. The kids really liked them. Thursday night Danielle and Rick treated us to pizza and wings because we thought it was only appropriate since it was the officially opening of college football. We watched some games for a while before switching to the weather because we were watching Hurricane Hermine make landfall. We had some pretty good wind and rain but it wasn't anything that was too major this far inland and south of the storm. It did make for a very dreary Friday but it also made it much cooler than normal so that was nice. You know you have lived in Florida for too long when you walk outside and remark that it is a bit "chilly" and it's around 85 degrees with wind.

Saturday started the fun, long weekend though! Steven worked so many hours through last week that with the holiday on Monday, he knew he would only need to work no more than 2 days during the next week so he plans to take Tuesday and Friday off during Labor Day week this week. It is making for a nice really long weekend for him. (Sunday night he remarked that it was his "Friday night" and he seemed pretty excited about that. We are all excited to see his face a lot over the next few days.)

Saturday morning the kids were up sort of early (6:30... whatever that is about) but it let me get ready for a run and be out the door by 7. After my run, Steven went on one. He has been not running for about 2 weeks now. Once he got the shingles diagnosis, he wanted to wait it out a bit because we know part of the issue was that he was stressed and run down. Then, we decided it was best to let him finish up the meds he had before jumping back into training.... and training is getting a bit more serious but that is a topic more for ANOTHER POST. So, this was his first run in 2 week. He was back in time though for us to cue up Gameday and get started on our normal Saturday morning routine. Football is back!!!! Then Saturday afternoon, we headed out for the UCF football game. I detailed all of that in THIS POST so feel free to take a look at that if you haven't already and are interested. We all had a blast. The kids are officially football fanatics, I think.

Sunday we didn't do a lot other than church in the morning. The kids were exhausted after our long Saturday night so they both took naps. Will took his usual 2 hour one but Kenzie had to be woken up from a marathon 3 hour nap. We then invited over some of our neighbors to have a smoked chicken for dinner (and sides but those aren't as exciting as the chicken.) The kids had a blast playing with their little girl. She is about 9 months younger than Will (I have mentioned her before) and we are so excited that despite their seemingly large age difference, their birthdays work out in such a way that they will be in the same class at school once they start elementary school. Well, the same grade. We are just hoping for the same class but we will see how that goes. We have very minimal control over that, obviously.

Monday morning was a lazy one around here. We were still recovering from Saturday, I think. Steven actually got his rear in gear and went for a run. I couldn't get myself out the door. I have plans for Tuesday morning so hopefully I get it together. Then we ran some errands. Will's birthday is really sneaking up on us here. Not sure what's going on but I have been so busy that I haven't devoted nearly as much time to it as I usually would so we wanted to pick up a few things to let me keep working on the decor and plans. We also have Halloween sneaking up on us sooner rather than later and we have big plans for that between the trunk or treat and actual Halloween costumes so I need to get a move on it for that, as well. We ended up stopping for lunch at Steak N Shake. The kids love that place. We had a bit of an issue with Will and I had to remove him from the restaurant a few times because he wanted to eat his french fried (bo byes as he calls them) before his sandwich but we know better than to allow that with him. He got a bit loud and upset so we removed him, calmed him down, and eventually he ate his sandwich first.

We ended up hitting up Hobby Lobby for some Halloween costume items and then Petco for a few new fish before heading home. We got 3 black mollys and 2 red velvet swordtails. Kenzie named them Silly, Sammy, Abby, Sadie, and Abby. Yep, 2 have the same name. Also, they look alike so I don't think she actually knows which ones are which now but she says she does. Who knows. Weird kid.

We spent the afternoon relaxing and I started Kenzie's costume for Halloween. Might as well. My mom is coming this weekend to help me with some more of the costume stuff and some of the trunk or treat things since she will be out of town this year and not actually make it to the trunk or treat. Hopefully she will be able to make it down on Halloween but we will see.

We did some yard work to finish off our day and let the kid play outside. This afternoon was glorious! It was cloudy but with the wind, it was actually far cooler than normal. It almost felt like fall might show up soon. I'm sure later this week we will be back to 90 degrees and sunny, but for the afternoon... it was great.

So, our "summer" is officially done but I'm sure we will have some more fun things planned in the upcoming weeks. The bucket list is done and although we didn't finish everything on it, I'm glad we did what we did and am happy with it. We also did so much more than was listed on that bucket list. Only missing 3 things... not too bad. It was an awesome summer and I am so excited to see what kind of fun we can get into this fall. =)

Eight is Great!

Today Kenzie is EIGHT! It's so crazy. We have an 8 year old. Only two years away from double digits. A third grader. A girl that is quickly becoming a preteen. There is only a year left (technically) until that is officially the stage we are in. Though I have to say... she acts more and more like an actual preteen every day of her life. She's too much. We often joke that she is 8 going on 28, but in all honesty, she is an old soul and often acts much older than her years. At 8-years-old, Kenzie... - Is still the friendliest kid I know. She loves with her whole heart. She hates to hurt anyone's feelings. The downside is that her feelings get hit hard when someone isn't nice to her. We have had to deal with that on occasion, especially in the last year when we had a run in with a girl that Kenzie thought was her friend but she ended up being not really nice to Kenzie in the long run. We learned as parents that the "mean girl" stage starts early. Kenzie...

13 Weeks to 13 Miles! OUC Orlando Half Marathon Training: Week 7

This is it. This is officially the middle week of the 13 weeks to 13 miles training plan. It's the odd man out week. It is also the week after our rest week and the week that things really start to pick up speed. We have mostly done overall low mileage weeks up until this point topping out at 13 miles which is overall less than the half marathon... by a measly .1 mile but that mileage was all divvied up over 3 runs so it's definitely not the same. Now we start ramping up and we don't slow down until the week before the race when we essentially taper. This week is an overall 15 miles and by the end, we will top out at 22 weekly miles. Eek. We can do it! I know we can. I hope. Haha! Tuesday Plan: 4 Miles, Actual: 4 Miles Whew! Another run in the books. This one was probably one of the worst ones so far. Not because I didn't run okay. I was actually fine for most of the run. I kept my 1:1 intervals and paced about 13:30 without too many outliers as far as timing goes. ...

New State Parks, Beaches, Movies, and Friend Time

Another weekend has been put in the books for the Young Household. This weekend was actually a bit less crazy than some of our others, I think but still filled with fun and some new things. We started Friday afternoon when Steven was able to come home an hour or so early. We started getting ready for our big Saturday plans and then made pizza and sat down to watch a movie. We love this Friday tradition. We try to do it at least a couple times a month. We used to order pizza but when we started watching our finances closer, we determined that it was better for us to make pizza either homemade or frozen (and the kids like frozen pizza as much as pizza from a restaurant right now so we will continue to capitalize on that for a while... Will loves homemade but Kenzie is in a current anti-homemade stage because she is weird). Anyway, we made a frozen pizza and some cheesy bread. Then we sat down together to watch Inside Out. We picked it up at the library last week and never had a chance ...
