15 Months...

Will turned 15 months old on January 14, 2016. I can't believe he is getting so big!

At 15 months, Will....

.... Is FINALLY walking more than he is crawling. It took him a while to get the hang of it. Despite taking his first series of steps just before 14 months old, it took him almost a full month to learn that it was going to be easier and faster to walk. He is walking more and more everyday. We figure the constant running will soon follow and then it is off to the races! He already tries to chase his sister while crawling so she is about to be in for it. In the last week, he has broken into a run on more than one occasion. Pray for me. =)

.... weighs somewhere in the range of 23 lbs 10 oz (38th percentile) and is about 31.5 inches (somewhere in the 60th percentile range). His head is only 25th percentile, which is normal but sort of threw the doc off because his cheeks are so round that his head looks bigger than that. All of his measurements have to be taken with a grain of salt because he was crazy wiggly today. The nurse and I eventually took a "good enough for government work" approach because it was difficult to keep him still. He was trying to roll off the mat while getting measured and wanting to walk away while being weighed. Typical...

.... Is starting to learn the art of troublemaking, for sure. He will do things that he knows are not the best idea and, once caught, will smile at you... and then do it again. All the while, watching you and smiling. He is generally, easily redirected, but he is certainly learning to try to push his limits to see what he can get away with already. His favorite trouble maker activity? Playing in Jack's water bowl. Poor dog. Can't catch a break.

.... Is already showing a preference for his left hand. We have a lot of left handers in the family so him being one wouldn't be surprising. Yes, we know it is early to make an assumption that he is left handed, but his preference is substantial. We will see how it all works out.

.... Talks. A lot. He loves to hear his own voice. He has quite a word bank at this point, as well. He doesn't use too many 2 word utterances yet but we have heard him say, "Hi, Dada", "Hi, Jack", "I done", and "Tank uh." Other than that, he loves to label things and ask "What?" or "That?" to get us to label things for him.

.... Gives the best sloppy kisses, huge hugs, and blows kisses like a pro. He makes adorable kissy noises as he gives kisses and blows kisses too. I can't get enough of that.

.... Waves to EVERYONE! He is such a social butterfly. He has trouble not saying hello to people. He says "hi" and "bye" as he does it, as well. People always get a kick out of him doing this.

.... Still has just 8 adorable little teeth. Despite his pediatrician telling us that she could tell his 1 year molars were close and seeing an intense amount of drool over the last couple of months, plus watching him chew his poor hands constantly, they have yet to make an appearance. Like Kenzie, he has been "teething" those molars for a few months. At least it hasn't bothered him too much.

.... Sleeps every night with his blanket and Bobo the bunny. He is obsessed with blankets and Bobo. We see him on the monitor cuddling one or both every night.

.... Continues to sleep about 12 hours (sometimes more) at night and takes a 1.5 to 3 hour nap every day. He actually sleeps at night better than his sister. If he wakes up (and that is rare), he usually only fusses for about 10 minutes then settles back to sleep. He also sleeps any and every where. I guess he is making up for 11.5 months of waking 3-6 times a night.

.... Claps along to a variety of kids' songs and knows a lot of the hand movements (or whole body movements, whatever the case may be) for them too. His current favorites are "If You're Happy and You Know It" and "Shake Your Sillies Out". He also loves to dance and can't help but bob to music when he hears it.

.... Is our laid back child, for sure. He just goes with the flow. If we miss a nap in his crib, he sleeps in the car, stroller, while being worn... you get the idea. Then, the next day he transitions right back to being in his crib without blinking an eye. He can go all day with us because he is so easy going. He is also an awesome shopping partner because as long as he is with you, he is happy.

....  Is a champion at playing alone when necessary. He doesn't need any of us to hang around him and keep him busy. At the same time, he loves to play with Kenzie or anyone else willing to play.

.... Has little fear. We haven't yet hit that stage with him. He will play on a playground without abandon. He tries the craziest stunts because he doesn't fear hurting himself. He loves to climb and despite a few falls, doesn't get deterred.

.... Thinks his sister hangs the moon. Their relationship is amazing. He would follow her to the end of the earth. Laughing along with her the entire way.

.... Loves to laugh. He laughs at everything. He still has the best belly laugh. His favorite thing to laugh about (other than his sister doing something silly) is peekaboo. He loves it and will play it whenever possible.

.... Loves to be outside. He prefers playing on the back porch if the back door is open or loves to be outside in front of our house if we are doing something out there. He loves parks and playgrounds. Whether it is climbing the playground equipment or digging in the dirt, he is an outdoors loving boy.

.... Eats like a horse. This kid is going to send us to the poor house. He wakes up, drinks milk, then immediately begins asking for breakfast. He eats a morning snack, typically a large lunch, an afternoon snack, dinner, and drinks more milk before bed. Rarely does he refuse food. He also eats just about anything. Kenzie started showing some preferences at this point and while he does like fruit over anything else, he will eat just about anything you put in front of him.

.... Grows hair like it's going out of style. He has needed 2 haircuts already and we are bordering on number 3 right now. The longer his hair gets, the wavier it becomes. Sorry, kid. Apparently he got the curly haired gene, too.

.... Has the most delicious cheeks. Despite getting taller and thinner, his cheeks seem to be sticking around. Everyone always comments that he has the best cheeks (and eyes). He's one cute kid.

.... Has one of the most amazing little personalities out there. Between his easy going nature, love of laughing, and big heart-melting smile, this kid is crazy adorable. We are all so blessed he is ours.

Ushering in Five-and-a-half

No. Nope. Not happening. Not even close.... but it is. As of tomorrow, Will is officially five-and-a-half. Halfway to six. SIX. What on earth? Both of our kids need to slow their roll and take it down a notch. It's so crazy to think that Will is going to be six in just six short months. He will start Kindergarten soon. He is already registered and ready to go. He is growing up so fast right before our eyes and it is a happy and sad time for me as Mama, for sure. So, a short update on Will at 5-and-a-half... - Will is growing like a weed. It is not uncommon right now for people to ask me if he has grown inches upon inches overnight. We are noticing that he is catching up to Kenzie fairly quickly and some of his friends that he used to be very similar in height to, he has gotten slightly taller than them. It's just his growth spurt time, apparently.  He remains remarkably skinny. So skinny that his clothes tend to fall of of him if we don't have adjustable waists. T...

Preschool Done.... One Step Closer to MIT

So, here it is. The end of "preschool." Note: "Preschool" and "VPK" are not used interchangeably for the purpose of our discussion. In the sense of the word, Kenzie is done with "preschool" and next year will be in "VPK". Eek! That's not allowed. Kenzie's first official year in school is now done. She is one year older, one year wiser, one year more stubborn. It's crazy for us to think back that just a few short months ago we were going to her Meet the Teacher day and we were both having some major anxiety about our baby going to school. I remember the first day of school plain as day. I thought she might have some apprehension. Nope. None. I probably shouldn't have been surprised. Kenzie went in like she owned the place. There was a day that her teacher mentioned that Kenzie was one of the quiet ones in the class and rarely spoke. I'm still not sure that she was thinking of my Kenzie. Maybe I had been dropping of...

Eight is Great!

Today Kenzie is EIGHT! It's so crazy. We have an 8 year old. Only two years away from double digits. A third grader. A girl that is quickly becoming a preteen. There is only a year left (technically) until that is officially the stage we are in. Though I have to say... she acts more and more like an actual preteen every day of her life. She's too much. We often joke that she is 8 going on 28, but in all honesty, she is an old soul and often acts much older than her years. At 8-years-old, Kenzie... - Is still the friendliest kid I know. She loves with her whole heart. She hates to hurt anyone's feelings. The downside is that her feelings get hit hard when someone isn't nice to her. We have had to deal with that on occasion, especially in the last year when we had a run in with a girl that Kenzie thought was her friend but she ended up being not really nice to Kenzie in the long run. We learned as parents that the "mean girl" stage starts early. Kenzie...
