Mother's Day and Will's Dedication

This Sunday was Mother's Day. We had a great day and I am so thankful to be these two hams' Mommy...

We actually started a bit of our celebration on Saturday. We woke up early (which is the usual in this house. We went to pick up breakfast at McDonald's and took it up to the neighborhood pool. We ate outside on a bench before going in the pool. We had a great time. We even had to fight Kenzie to get her out of the pool. What a change! Last year she spent her entire time in the pool hanging out on the steps only and periodically asking to get out. While she still cries through a lot of her swimming lessons because she isn't 100% comfortable all the time, she is obviously getting more comfortable than she was and she enjoys spending time in the pool. Will spent the morning lounging in his float without a care in the world.

After the pool (and a nap for Will), Steven mowed the yard. After Kenzie's nap (and another nap for Will), we went to Lowe's and Home Depot. My shopping buddies helped me pick out a new plant for Mother's Day. We decided on a cactus. Truthfully, I have a bit of a black thumb so this was the perfect plant for me. =)

We decided to order pizza for dinner. We were going to go out for pizza, but with two kids and two (very tired) parents, eating in is just as nice.

Sunday morning we got up and got ready for church. Not only was it Mother's Day, but it was also another special day for our family. Our parents and my brother and his fiance came into town to witness Will's dedication at church. We dedicated Kenzie when she was just over a year old and wanted to also dedicate Will. Our church does not baptize children until they can make the decision on their own and instead we dedicate young children. It is important to us that we raise our children in the church and that we teach them about walking in the faith.

After church we came home with everyone and the grandmas opened their Mother's Day gifts. We got them canvases of pictures of the kids. My mom was given one of Will and Kenzie and (along with Julie, Eric, and Evie) Steven's mom was given one with Evie, Will, and Kenzie. Actually, my Mother's Day is coming in the mail Friday and Steven and the kiddos got me the same canvases for our house. I'm so excited to get them soon!

We had a great lunch with everyone. Steven grilled hamburgers and hot dogs and we had potato salad, baked beans, deviled eggs, mac and cheese, brownies and cookies. So yummy!

It was an awesome Mother's Day. I feel so blessed every day to be chosen as Mommy to these two adorable children. They have such amazing hearts and personalities and I am so lucky.

Welcome Back to Your Regularly Scheduled Programming

It's almost time! School is upon us. The kids in our county return on Wednesday. Kenzie's first day of school is next Tuesday. Monday we will have Meet the Teacher during the day and then Tuesday will be her first day of VPK. More on all that in a minute... This week though officially started our return to normalcy. It's about time! Kenzie started back to dance on Monday. The fall season started and she was so excited. She was asking me all day about when it would be time to go to dance. She was just so ready to get back to it. This season/year we have elected to stay with the same teacher she had last year, Ms. Rebekah. Kenzie loved her so it seemed like a great bet when we found out that she was going to be teaching Pre-K 2. This year will be a lot like last year in that they will do ballet, tap, and tumbling but the skills we be more advanced. More "dance language" will be used (though Ms. Rebekah has always focused on giving them proper terminology anyway)...

Eight is Great!

Today Kenzie is EIGHT! It's so crazy. We have an 8 year old. Only two years away from double digits. A third grader. A girl that is quickly becoming a preteen. There is only a year left (technically) until that is officially the stage we are in. Though I have to say... she acts more and more like an actual preteen every day of her life. She's too much. We often joke that she is 8 going on 28, but in all honesty, she is an old soul and often acts much older than her years. At 8-years-old, Kenzie... - Is still the friendliest kid I know. She loves with her whole heart. She hates to hurt anyone's feelings. The downside is that her feelings get hit hard when someone isn't nice to her. We have had to deal with that on occasion, especially in the last year when we had a run in with a girl that Kenzie thought was her friend but she ended up being not really nice to Kenzie in the long run. We learned as parents that the "mean girl" stage starts early. Kenzie...

Goodbye Preschool... Hello Elementary School!

Bear with me... this post is not only about Kenzie's final day at school but all the crazy things (they are just crazy to me because I can't believe that little 7 lbs 6 oz baby is about to be in kindergarten) leading up to it that are preparing her for being a kindergartener so it is a bit long. Aaaaannnnndddd... That's it. We have reached the end of an era for Kenzie. At least the end of a stage of sorts. We have officially left behind the preschool stage and are getting ready to embark on the "school age" section of her life. These last few weeks have been... emotional. About three weeks ago we took our happy selves over to the elementary school and attended the kindergarten orientation for our baby girl. Who isn't actually much of a "baby" anymore despite my protests. We were able to take a tour of the school and see some of the kindergarten classrooms, the specials classrooms, cafeteria, clinic, and media center. The kids were all given t...
