Happy Hoppy Easter!

This Easter weekend was a lot of fun. We started our weekend out by going to Good Friday communion at church. This was our first time doing this and it was a really great night of worship and communion. Kenzie even sat through the entire thing. It was only about 45 minutes long but when you consider that it started at 6pm (an hour before bedtime) that was quite an accomplishment.

Saturday we decided to dye eggs with Kenzie. This year that really just involved us dying the eggs and letting her watch and look at them. Next year she should be able to participate more.

Easter Sunday we started our day by getting dressed up (sort of) for church. Our church isn't one that most people wear suits or anything. Nana and Uncle Rick came to church with us. Papa was supposed to come, but he was not feeling well. I think we gave him whatever this sickness is that we are passing around our house.

Before leaving for church, Kenzie got to see what the Easter Bunny had brought her. I think the Easter Bunny figured that since she was so young this year, he didn't need to bring her too much. =) She got a cute basket that she can continue to play with, a sock monkey, yogurt melts, a book, and sunglasses. Kenzie is not very enthused with the sunglasses yet but we will keep working on it.

After church, Grandma and Grandaddy came to eat lunch with all of us. We had a yummy lunch with barbeque chicken, potato salad, baked beans, garlic bread, and mac and cheese. For dessert we had awesome brownies. It was a lot of fun. We are so excited to have Grandma and Grandaddy close enough now that they can come visit for things like Easter lunch. Nana and Papa have been close for a while but now we have both sets of grandparents at a good distance to do things like that.

All in all, I think Kenzie's first Easter was fun. We are excited for next year when she can participate in egg dying and the Easter Bunny festivities. However, we are definitely going to make it a point to make sure that as she gets older, she knows the reason for the holiday as well. I'm excited that over the last year, we have found a church home and we can continue to bring her up in that environment. So (a day late) we want to wish everyone a Happy Easter and a Happy Resurrection Day!

Welcome Back to Your Regularly Scheduled Programming

It's almost time! School is upon us. The kids in our county return on Wednesday. Kenzie's first day of school is next Tuesday. Monday we will have Meet the Teacher during the day and then Tuesday will be her first day of VPK. More on all that in a minute... This week though officially started our return to normalcy. It's about time! Kenzie started back to dance on Monday. The fall season started and she was so excited. She was asking me all day about when it would be time to go to dance. She was just so ready to get back to it. This season/year we have elected to stay with the same teacher she had last year, Ms. Rebekah. Kenzie loved her so it seemed like a great bet when we found out that she was going to be teaching Pre-K 2. This year will be a lot like last year in that they will do ballet, tap, and tumbling but the skills we be more advanced. More "dance language" will be used (though Ms. Rebekah has always focused on giving them proper terminology anyway)...

Eight is Great!

Today Kenzie is EIGHT! It's so crazy. We have an 8 year old. Only two years away from double digits. A third grader. A girl that is quickly becoming a preteen. There is only a year left (technically) until that is officially the stage we are in. Though I have to say... she acts more and more like an actual preteen every day of her life. She's too much. We often joke that she is 8 going on 28, but in all honesty, she is an old soul and often acts much older than her years. At 8-years-old, Kenzie... - Is still the friendliest kid I know. She loves with her whole heart. She hates to hurt anyone's feelings. The downside is that her feelings get hit hard when someone isn't nice to her. We have had to deal with that on occasion, especially in the last year when we had a run in with a girl that Kenzie thought was her friend but she ended up being not really nice to Kenzie in the long run. We learned as parents that the "mean girl" stage starts early. Kenzie...

Goodbye Preschool... Hello Elementary School!

Bear with me... this post is not only about Kenzie's final day at school but all the crazy things (they are just crazy to me because I can't believe that little 7 lbs 6 oz baby is about to be in kindergarten) leading up to it that are preparing her for being a kindergartener so it is a bit long. Aaaaannnnndddd... That's it. We have reached the end of an era for Kenzie. At least the end of a stage of sorts. We have officially left behind the preschool stage and are getting ready to embark on the "school age" section of her life. These last few weeks have been... emotional. About three weeks ago we took our happy selves over to the elementary school and attended the kindergarten orientation for our baby girl. Who isn't actually much of a "baby" anymore despite my protests. We were able to take a tour of the school and see some of the kindergarten classrooms, the specials classrooms, cafeteria, clinic, and media center. The kids were all given t...
