A Year in Running

As 2017 is winding down, Steven and I have been talking about all the races we did and the training we did to get there and thought it would be fun to take a picture of all of our race shirts/medals. That led to us talking about how much we have run overall. And that led to us deciding to do a brief recap.

This year we ran quite a few races. All but one had shirts and most had medals. Here's how it all went down:

January - No Races

February - Run 4 Love 4 Mile

March - No Races

April - Iron Girl Clearwater 5k - Kristen Only
IOA Corporate 5k - Steven Only
            RunDisney Star Wars 10k

July - Watermelon 5k

August - Celebration of Running 5k

September - Battle of the Bands 5k - Steven Only

October - U Can Finish 5 Mile

November - Turkey Trot - Steven Only

December - Reindeer Run

I did the Iron Girl alone (with my mom and sis-in-law) because it is women only. Steven did the Battle of the Bands alone because it was the week after Hurricane Irma and I had taken the kids to my parents' house because we were still without power. He ran the Turkey Trot alone because I had to prep Thanksgiving dinner that day.

With 2017 winding down, we are talking about our race schedule for the next year. This year we hope to return to the same races minus the Disney race but we plan to add a 5k in January and a 10k in March. I think it would be pretty cool if we could figure out how to do one race a month (minimum) but summer races are harder to come by in Florida so I don't know about finding a June one. We will look though. We have been considering running the Bridge of Lions 5k in St. Augustine in July but we would have to figure out the timing with people to watch the kids. I don't think strollers are allowed since it is over the bridge... but even if they are, I don't know that I would make it over it with the double stroller. Especially since it isn't actually a jogging stroller which makes the entire thing a bit more difficult. Regardless, it should be another fun year of running. And hopefully another year of trying to meet goals.

Here's our numbers on the year:
Steven:
     Miles Run - 205.84 (Biggest Month - January @31.36)
     Miles Walked - 278.46 (Biggest Month - January @34.89)

Kristen:
Miles Run - 176.5 (Biggest Month - June @37.1 miles)
Miles Walked - 60.27 (Biggest Month - May @17.34 miles)

Welcome Back to Your Regularly Scheduled Programming

It's almost time! School is upon us. The kids in our county return on Wednesday. Kenzie's first day of school is next Tuesday. Monday we will have Meet the Teacher during the day and then Tuesday will be her first day of VPK. More on all that in a minute... This week though officially started our return to normalcy. It's about time! Kenzie started back to dance on Monday. The fall season started and she was so excited. She was asking me all day about when it would be time to go to dance. She was just so ready to get back to it. This season/year we have elected to stay with the same teacher she had last year, Ms. Rebekah. Kenzie loved her so it seemed like a great bet when we found out that she was going to be teaching Pre-K 2. This year will be a lot like last year in that they will do ballet, tap, and tumbling but the skills we be more advanced. More "dance language" will be used (though Ms. Rebekah has always focused on giving them proper terminology anyway)...

Eight is Great!

Today Kenzie is EIGHT! It's so crazy. We have an 8 year old. Only two years away from double digits. A third grader. A girl that is quickly becoming a preteen. There is only a year left (technically) until that is officially the stage we are in. Though I have to say... she acts more and more like an actual preteen every day of her life. She's too much. We often joke that she is 8 going on 28, but in all honesty, she is an old soul and often acts much older than her years. At 8-years-old, Kenzie... - Is still the friendliest kid I know. She loves with her whole heart. She hates to hurt anyone's feelings. The downside is that her feelings get hit hard when someone isn't nice to her. We have had to deal with that on occasion, especially in the last year when we had a run in with a girl that Kenzie thought was her friend but she ended up being not really nice to Kenzie in the long run. We learned as parents that the "mean girl" stage starts early. Kenzie...

Goodbye Preschool... Hello Elementary School!

Bear with me... this post is not only about Kenzie's final day at school but all the crazy things (they are just crazy to me because I can't believe that little 7 lbs 6 oz baby is about to be in kindergarten) leading up to it that are preparing her for being a kindergartener so it is a bit long. Aaaaannnnndddd... That's it. We have reached the end of an era for Kenzie. At least the end of a stage of sorts. We have officially left behind the preschool stage and are getting ready to embark on the "school age" section of her life. These last few weeks have been... emotional. About three weeks ago we took our happy selves over to the elementary school and attended the kindergarten orientation for our baby girl. Who isn't actually much of a "baby" anymore despite my protests. We were able to take a tour of the school and see some of the kindergarten classrooms, the specials classrooms, cafeteria, clinic, and media center. The kids were all given t...
