Easter Weekend Recap

This weekend was/is Easter weekend and it was quite busy for us. It started for us on Friday when I met up with Mom Y to get the kids' Easter gifts since we were unable to see them the day before because Dad Y was sick. Poor Mom Y ended up taking hours upon hours to get to Sanford to meet me and then home again. I felt terrible. No offense though... better her than me. Haha. She knows I think that too. I can't imagine being stuck with two kids in traffic that long. Though, if I were stuck alone... I might enjoy it.

While we were down near the mall, I took the kids to Toys R Us to spend the last of a gift card they had from Christmas. This last week was Spring Break so I had both kids around 24/7. They were really good all week too so we decided we would let them spend the end of the gift card. Kenzie chose a Doc McStuffins Pet Vet kit and Will got a stuffed TMNT. Rafael, I think. I'm going to have to brush up on my TMNT stuff soon. I just remember that Michaelangelo loves pizza. =) They got to ride the little train as we left. I had 50 cents (which I told them Nana gave me) so they could ride. I refuse to be associated with that thing so I told them their ride was from Nana as she always lets them ride things like that when she is with them. If they think it's Nana we have learned, they don't ask me for it. Whatever works.

After that, we went over to the mall and I took both kids for lunch in the food court. That was an experience. I have taken them out to eat before at McDonalds or Chick Fil A.... but in a food court environment, it was a lot different. I picked them up Chick Fil A, but I wanted Charleys so I had to navigate with both of them and then find a table, a high chair, and get everyone settled. It was more difficult than I thought it might be, but we made it. I actually felt pretty accomplished. Haha! After lunch we walked through the mall a bit more before heading home.

Everyone keeps asking what Kenzie's face is... it's just Kenzie being silly when
I try to take their picture.
Steven got home not long after us while the kids were playing outside with the girls from next door. It started to pour though so we called it a day and went inside to start getting ready for dinner and church. We ended up leaving early to run some errands and eventually went to Tijuana Flats for dinner. I forgot how much I like that place. We used to go every Friday night. I'm not sure why we stopped, but I definitely would like to start doing that again. Church was a very nice Good Friday service. It was somber and quiet, however, which was not necessarily the best for 2 small (and tired because it was bed time) kids. They did as well as can be expected though. Kenzie might have climbed all the way down our row of chairs. Thankfully, we were the only people in our row. And Will might have removed every paper from the seat backs in front of us all the way down the row then made it rain and laughed hysterically (more than once), but we made it in and out without too many issues. Kenzie actually surprised us immensely with her knowledge of what Good Friday and Easter are when we were on our way to church. She is apparently paying pretty good attention in school. She even told me that the stone was rolled away. That was a detail I haven't mentioned in any of my explanations of the holiday in the past, so it must be partially from school or her class on Sundays at church. Either way, it is sinking in and we were so happy to hear her explain all of that to us.

Saturday I woke up early and went for a run before watching the girls from next door so our neighbor could go on her run. The kids had a lot of fun playing. As we were outside, another neighbor rode by on her bike and asked us if we knew about the Easter egg hunt by our pool that morning. We didn't, but once we knew, we were all set to go. We made it up there just in time and the kids really enjoyed it. Kenzie is an egg hunt master. She has had a good amount of practice lately. Will liked picking up the eggs, but probably would have sat at the same egg for quite some time and just opened it and closed it over and over again if I let him. I did convince him to get a few more eggs. The kids got a lot of yummy candy and just had a blast.

At that point, it had been a super long morning for all of us so while Steven got to work on the yard, the kids and I made a Publix run before lunch. Then it was naptime and Will graced us with his usual 2.5 hour nap. I can't complain about how he used to sleep much anymore because most days he sleeps 12-13 hours at night and takes a 1.5-2.5 hour nap. I almost don't remember those sleepless nights for 11.5 months. Almost. Kenzie did her Easter craft she picked out at Michaels while Will napped. She painted this little ceramic bunny and she was quite excited with herself. I am loving that we are getting to the age that these crafts are finally more fun and she actually enjoys them and wants to do them rather than just coloring for 5 minutes or something and then getting bored and wanting to move on.

Anyway, after Will's nap we ran up to Lowes before coming home to dye eggs. Kenzie was so excited! She helped as much as we could let her. Will just ate. A lot. He seriously just stood next to us and ate. Cheerios, banana, more cheerios, an applesauce pouch... you get the idea. This kid is crazy.

We ended up moving Sunday grilling to Saturday night and made turkey burgers and hot dogs for dinner. We wanted to eat outside, but it seems we might have missed some of our outside eating opportunities. It went from pretty chilly at night to hot and so far, we don't seem to be having a lot of good weather for outside eating. The weather is still being sort of crazy though, so we might get a few days. We will eat outside in the heat too, but we just weren't in the mood Saturday night. Everyone went to bed early as we knew we would be getting up before the sun on Sunday for church. Both kids were out like lights at 7pm. It was a long day and they were both exhausted.

Sunday morning both kids woke up before we were initially planning but it was right on time to be able to get them dressed and check out what the Easter Bunny brought before church. The kids loved their baskets. They were both very excited. We went ahead and did our mini egg hunt around the house before going to church and managed to find all 23 eggs the bunny hid. I had my doubts and was convinced we would find an egg in June or something, but we did okay. They were hidden in really easy spots this year because of Will. Both kids were running around the living room gathering eggs. It was quite funny.

We were at the Apopka Amphitheater about 7:15 as we were volunteering during the service. Kenzie loved listening to the band rehearse and eating her doughnut for breakfast. Will just held a sticky doughnut for about 30 minutes before I took it from him. I ended up wearing him most of the morning until Nana, Uncle Rick, and Aunt Danielle showed up. At that point, Nana walked around with the kids until the service started. The service was awesome! Great worship and a nice message. It was pretty cool to see our church have the opportunity to put on this community service. The kids did well during the service. Kenzie spent a lot of time with Steven and myself at the back handing out leaflets or finding kids to play with. Will sat with Nana for about 1/2 the service until he remembered I was there so I ended up wearing him for the last half. He almost fell asleep but Kenzie touched his leg. Oh well.

After church we came back to the house to hang around a bit before going to Sonny's for lunch. It was a good lunch. I was craving some barbecue. One of these days we need to get back to 4Rivers. Definitely. But I digress. We then hung out with Nana, Uncle Rick, and Aunt Danielle a while longer before they had to head back to Papa who has a pretty bad cold right now (hence why he didn't come.) We planted a few new plants and now are just relaxing for the remainder of the day. Kenzie has spent some time playing with her playdough and sidewalk chalk. She is also obsessed with her recorder from Nana. I'm pretty sure Nana has a death wish. Note to every grandparent out there... don't buy your grandchild a recorder. Not cool, Nana. Not cool. Kenzie loves it though. The dog, not so much. Other than the recorder... we had a great Easter weekend.

He is not here; he has risen!

Ushering in Five-and-a-half

No. Nope. Not happening. Not even close.... but it is. As of tomorrow, Will is officially five-and-a-half. Halfway to six. SIX. What on earth? Both of our kids need to slow their roll and take it down a notch. It's so crazy to think that Will is going to be six in just six short months. He will start Kindergarten soon. He is already registered and ready to go. He is growing up so fast right before our eyes and it is a happy and sad time for me as Mama, for sure. So, a short update on Will at 5-and-a-half... - Will is growing like a weed. It is not uncommon right now for people to ask me if he has grown inches upon inches overnight. We are noticing that he is catching up to Kenzie fairly quickly and some of his friends that he used to be very similar in height to, he has gotten slightly taller than them. It's just his growth spurt time, apparently.  He remains remarkably skinny. So skinny that his clothes tend to fall of of him if we don't have adjustable waists. T...

Preschool Done.... One Step Closer to MIT

So, here it is. The end of "preschool." Note: "Preschool" and "VPK" are not used interchangeably for the purpose of our discussion. In the sense of the word, Kenzie is done with "preschool" and next year will be in "VPK". Eek! That's not allowed. Kenzie's first official year in school is now done. She is one year older, one year wiser, one year more stubborn. It's crazy for us to think back that just a few short months ago we were going to her Meet the Teacher day and we were both having some major anxiety about our baby going to school. I remember the first day of school plain as day. I thought she might have some apprehension. Nope. None. I probably shouldn't have been surprised. Kenzie went in like she owned the place. There was a day that her teacher mentioned that Kenzie was one of the quiet ones in the class and rarely spoke. I'm still not sure that she was thinking of my Kenzie. Maybe I had been dropping of...

Eight is Great!

Today Kenzie is EIGHT! It's so crazy. We have an 8 year old. Only two years away from double digits. A third grader. A girl that is quickly becoming a preteen. There is only a year left (technically) until that is officially the stage we are in. Though I have to say... she acts more and more like an actual preteen every day of her life. She's too much. We often joke that she is 8 going on 28, but in all honesty, she is an old soul and often acts much older than her years. At 8-years-old, Kenzie... - Is still the friendliest kid I know. She loves with her whole heart. She hates to hurt anyone's feelings. The downside is that her feelings get hit hard when someone isn't nice to her. We have had to deal with that on occasion, especially in the last year when we had a run in with a girl that Kenzie thought was her friend but she ended up being not really nice to Kenzie in the long run. We learned as parents that the "mean girl" stage starts early. Kenzie...
