Kenzie's First Beach Trip

This weekend we took a trip to Treasure Island (on the West coast) for Kenzie's first ever beach trip. Julie and Eric were spending a couple of days out there and we thought it would be fun to go out and hang out with them on the beach. Having the use of a hotel room was also a plus. =)

To start, I just need to share that we don't exactly travel light when we go to the beach. We never have. Unfortunately (or fortunately because we are always 100% prepared) we are not the kind of people that just pick up our swimsuits, towels, and go. We always travel as if we are staying all day and do not want to hang out in swimsuits all day. So, adding another person (albeit one that is barely over two feet tall and weighs maybe 20 lbs soaking wet) added that much more stuff to our packing list. We were packed to the brim. We used almost everything we brought over there too.

Anyway, we left bright and early in the morning since it was a 2 hour trip to the beach. We got there around 9:30 and wasted little time getting down to the beach.

Kenzie wasn't 100% sure of the waves. Unfortunately it was still a bit rough after Tropical Storm Andrea made her way through so the waves were higher than we would have liked. I tried to sit her down in the water to play on her own, but it was also really cold since it is only June and she wasn't having any of that. I ended up sitting with her on my lap and letting the water hit us as the waves came in. That she seemed to be okay with. We then played with her beach toys on her blanket for a bit while we watched Daddy, Aunt Julie, and Uncle Eric swim. She also wasn't 100% sure of the sand at first. After a bit, it didn't seem to bother her but she mostly stayed on her blanket. She is still a bit young and more often than not, puts toys in her mouth and doesn't really "play" with them so she didn't really interact too much with the sand and water this time. I think within a few months she will be having a ball. Poor kid also has my skin so she was covered quite a bit. I am very proud to say though that she got absolutely no sun. Let's keep that crazy fair skin as unsunburned as possible.

After we played at the beach for a while we went back up to Julie and Eric's hotel room and got all cleaned up to go to lunch. Seriously, if we could afford it I would book a hotel room for every trip to the beach. That is just so convenient. We went to lunch in St. Pete Beach and had yummy shrimp. Kenzie had cantalope, pears, and cheerios. Not shrimp for her just yet unfortunately.

We went to the boardwalk after lunch and had some ice cream (again, none for Kenzie just yet). After that we decided it was time to head back to Apopka. The drive back was interesting as it poured on us the entire way home. Kenzie also slept the entire way home because she had missed her naps. She did really well all day for not napping more than 10 or so minutes. We were impressed. We think she had a good time. We are excited to go back. We will likely try the East coast next time (the plus to living in Florida... both coasts have beaches and they are so different). That means I will definitely have to sit with her in the water as our East coast is much rougher since it is the Atlantic. I'm sure it will be a blast as well though.

Welcome Back to Your Regularly Scheduled Programming

It's almost time! School is upon us. The kids in our county return on Wednesday. Kenzie's first day of school is next Tuesday. Monday we will have Meet the Teacher during the day and then Tuesday will be her first day of VPK. More on all that in a minute... This week though officially started our return to normalcy. It's about time! Kenzie started back to dance on Monday. The fall season started and she was so excited. She was asking me all day about when it would be time to go to dance. She was just so ready to get back to it. This season/year we have elected to stay with the same teacher she had last year, Ms. Rebekah. Kenzie loved her so it seemed like a great bet when we found out that she was going to be teaching Pre-K 2. This year will be a lot like last year in that they will do ballet, tap, and tumbling but the skills we be more advanced. More "dance language" will be used (though Ms. Rebekah has always focused on giving them proper terminology anyway)...

Eight is Great!

Today Kenzie is EIGHT! It's so crazy. We have an 8 year old. Only two years away from double digits. A third grader. A girl that is quickly becoming a preteen. There is only a year left (technically) until that is officially the stage we are in. Though I have to say... she acts more and more like an actual preteen every day of her life. She's too much. We often joke that she is 8 going on 28, but in all honesty, she is an old soul and often acts much older than her years. At 8-years-old, Kenzie... - Is still the friendliest kid I know. She loves with her whole heart. She hates to hurt anyone's feelings. The downside is that her feelings get hit hard when someone isn't nice to her. We have had to deal with that on occasion, especially in the last year when we had a run in with a girl that Kenzie thought was her friend but she ended up being not really nice to Kenzie in the long run. We learned as parents that the "mean girl" stage starts early. Kenzie...

Goodbye Preschool... Hello Elementary School!

Bear with me... this post is not only about Kenzie's final day at school but all the crazy things (they are just crazy to me because I can't believe that little 7 lbs 6 oz baby is about to be in kindergarten) leading up to it that are preparing her for being a kindergartener so it is a bit long. Aaaaannnnndddd... That's it. We have reached the end of an era for Kenzie. At least the end of a stage of sorts. We have officially left behind the preschool stage and are getting ready to embark on the "school age" section of her life. These last few weeks have been... emotional. About three weeks ago we took our happy selves over to the elementary school and attended the kindergarten orientation for our baby girl. Who isn't actually much of a "baby" anymore despite my protests. We were able to take a tour of the school and see some of the kindergarten classrooms, the specials classrooms, cafeteria, clinic, and media center. The kids were all given t...
