Visiting Great Gran-ma

This weekend Grandma and Grandpa came to visit. They were on their way to Palm Coast to check in our their new house and stopped to see us on the way. We know they really only wanted to see Kenzie, but we're used to that now. On Saturday they went with Steven to look at furniture for their new house and Kenzie and I stayed home. We knew that Sunday was going to be a big day and didn't want to disrupt her routine too much two days in a row.

Sunday morning we got an early start and went to Crystal River to visit Great Gran-ma (Steven's grandmother). Kenzie slept about half the way there (total of about 45 minutes). We spent some time at the house with Diane while Gran-ma learned some new things on her iPad from Dad Y.

Kenzie also got her first experience with a dog other than Jack. She seemed to like Sammy. He is more her size and he was super friendly with her.

After visiting for a bit, we met up with Aunt Rosemary, Uncle Brad, Robb, Dante, and their brood for lunch. We had a great time visiting with everyone and lunch was really good. The sandwiches were huge! The only problem was that we were so full that we had to push back dinner quite a bit. Kenzie did really well in the restaurant for how long we were there. She had some oatmeal and applesauce for lunch. She did require us to hold her almost the entire time after she finished lunch but that was mainly because she was just so tired since napping seemed to be out of the question earlier.

On the way home, Kenzie slept another 45 minutes. That's all the nap time she seemed to think she needed yesterday. When we got home she was super fussy. She ended up going to bed early (around 6:30 or 7 instead of 7:30). Yet, she slept through the night and woke up this morning around 7. She is now down for her first nap and has been napping for over 2 hours. Guess she is now making up for what she missed. =)

This weekend should hopefully be quieter around here. We have a friend coming to visit on Saturday morning while Steven goes to have his truck serviced and we have a couple people coming over to watch the Super Bowl on Sunday, but other than that (and church), I think we are just going to sit around and do nothing. Maybe go to the park if we have some time one of those days. Eh... I'm actually looking forward to a relatively quiet weekend at home.

Welcome Back to Your Regularly Scheduled Programming

It's almost time! School is upon us. The kids in our county return on Wednesday. Kenzie's first day of school is next Tuesday. Monday we will have Meet the Teacher during the day and then Tuesday will be her first day of VPK. More on all that in a minute... This week though officially started our return to normalcy. It's about time! Kenzie started back to dance on Monday. The fall season started and she was so excited. She was asking me all day about when it would be time to go to dance. She was just so ready to get back to it. This season/year we have elected to stay with the same teacher she had last year, Ms. Rebekah. Kenzie loved her so it seemed like a great bet when we found out that she was going to be teaching Pre-K 2. This year will be a lot like last year in that they will do ballet, tap, and tumbling but the skills we be more advanced. More "dance language" will be used (though Ms. Rebekah has always focused on giving them proper terminology anyway)...

Eight is Great!

Today Kenzie is EIGHT! It's so crazy. We have an 8 year old. Only two years away from double digits. A third grader. A girl that is quickly becoming a preteen. There is only a year left (technically) until that is officially the stage we are in. Though I have to say... she acts more and more like an actual preteen every day of her life. She's too much. We often joke that she is 8 going on 28, but in all honesty, she is an old soul and often acts much older than her years. At 8-years-old, Kenzie... - Is still the friendliest kid I know. She loves with her whole heart. She hates to hurt anyone's feelings. The downside is that her feelings get hit hard when someone isn't nice to her. We have had to deal with that on occasion, especially in the last year when we had a run in with a girl that Kenzie thought was her friend but she ended up being not really nice to Kenzie in the long run. We learned as parents that the "mean girl" stage starts early. Kenzie...

Goodbye Preschool... Hello Elementary School!

Bear with me... this post is not only about Kenzie's final day at school but all the crazy things (they are just crazy to me because I can't believe that little 7 lbs 6 oz baby is about to be in kindergarten) leading up to it that are preparing her for being a kindergartener so it is a bit long. Aaaaannnnndddd... That's it. We have reached the end of an era for Kenzie. At least the end of a stage of sorts. We have officially left behind the preschool stage and are getting ready to embark on the "school age" section of her life. These last few weeks have been... emotional. About three weeks ago we took our happy selves over to the elementary school and attended the kindergarten orientation for our baby girl. Who isn't actually much of a "baby" anymore despite my protests. We were able to take a tour of the school and see some of the kindergarten classrooms, the specials classrooms, cafeteria, clinic, and media center. The kids were all given t...
