13 Weeks to 13 Miles! OUC Orlando Half Marathon Training: Week 2

It's week two of half marathon training! Yay! So far, the training plan has remained fairly easy. I know those long runs are coming and I'm not looking that forward to them. Though I'm not worried about it either. Here's how this week went... Monday Plan: Cross Training, Actual: 1.3 mile walk with Will (2.8mph) Today the plan called for cross training. I don't have a lot of extra time to do something significant but at least walking lets me get out, get moving and is easier on my body than running. So, I'm calling my walk today my cross training. I decided this morning that if I didn't do something, I was not going to get anywhere near my step goal. So, after running a few errands, Will and I decided to go for a short walk. I tried to convince him to sit in the stroller so I could go faster, but he really wanted to walk. So I told him that if he thought he could do it without complaining, he could walk. He did great! We didn't move nearly as fast as ...

13 Weeks to 13 Miles! OUC Orlando Half Marathon Training: Week 1

It's been a while since I have done a "series" type post(s). When I first started running, I documented my progress via this blog using the C25K method. Well, after running for four or so years, I have finally worked up the courage to give a half marathon a go. A freaking half marathon. That's 13.1 miles. Steven and I officially registered for the OUC Orlando Half Marathon about a month ago after talking about how this was a goal both of us had. At this point, my main goal? Finish. Finish and be able to say I completed a half marathon. Bonus if I finish in under 3 hours. That seems like a ridiculous amount of time to run... and it probably is. I'm going into this though with minimal time consideration other than less than 15 minutes per mile (which is the recommended slowest pace on the half course so they can reopen roads). A 15 minute mile would let me finish a half in 3 hours, 16 minutes. And hey... if it takes me that long? So be it. But I plan to be done. I w...

Seven & Sassy

It's official! We have a 7-year-old! Kenzie turns seven today and it is crazy to think that this amazing girly has been earthside with our family for seven whole years now. As I always say... I still remember the moment I held her for the first time. Her and her crazy breech legs that popped up the moment you pushed them down. Still makes me giggle thinking about it. In lieu of the typical birthday letter that I have written to the kiddos in the past... this year we are doing 7 things about Kenzie!! =) Without further ado... Kenzie in a (sort of) nutshell. 1. Kenzie still has the world's greatest outlook on life. Her positive nature is contagious. She loves everything about life and always has an encouraging word when we need it. If you are feeling down, hang out with Kenzie. Life is (almost always) sunshine and rainbows. That doesn't mean she doesn't have her moments and lately we are seeing flashes of the pre-teen/teenager she is likely to become with random...

15 Favorite Moments/Things About Our 3-Day Bahamas Cruise

Typically in the past I have uploaded a daily recap of each day of a vacay or trip, but this vacation didn't really warrant it. Plus, one of the best things about a cruise is disconnecting from life. While we had our phones because they serve as cameras for both of us sometimes, we had no connection to home for three days and I didn't carry my laptop with me so I didn't write up actual recaps. Instead, we wanted to highlight a few of our favorite moments from this trip so we can look back on it for years to come (since that is the purpose of our travel journal anyway). First, a bit of info. Our family took a 3-day trip aboard the Royal Caribbean Harmony of the Seas. Harmony is presently the second largest cruise ship in the world. I believe that the largest (also an RC ship) is only slightly bigger though so really... it's a big one. The ship was being relocated to Port Canaveral for 7-day cruises; however, in order to get it back on the right schedule, they offere...
