Touchdown Team BLUE!

Why wait to make the big reveal here? Everyone already knows. We are officially Team Blue this time around and William Bryant will be here in October!!

Let me back up though and recap the day. I should probably start back farther than that though. Back before we even found out we would be expecting Baby Young #2 we talked about a gender reveal party. Rather, we argued about it. I loved the idea. Steven wasn't as keen on having everyone involved in us finding out what we were having. Not that he didn't want everyone to know. He just didn't know how he felt about us doing it all together. I wore him down though. Actually, I think he just sort of started to like the idea. We really just wanted to celebrate this baby. We had already decided that we would likely not do a second shower. We just had a baby about 2 years prior, after all. We figured even if it was a boy, we wouldn't need as many things as a first time parent would. So, we decided it wasn't such a bad idea after all.

Back in April we went in for our NT scan just before 12 weeks. The baby was uncooperative and we couldn't get the measurement. The plus though is that my OB offers every pregnant patient the opportunity to have the Panorama test done at a very low cost. This test requires taking my blood as well as a DNA swab from Steven's cheek and pulling the baby's DNA from my bloodstream. Pretty cool. It's main purpose is to determine different types of chromosonal disorders. Now, Steven and I had already decided that despite anything this test might tell us, we would continue to carry the baby. We would either carry as long as God felt we should or deal with whatever issues might be waiting for us after birth. We elected to do the test though just to give us some insight in case we were needing to talk about what it meant for our family or what resources we might need later. As a plus to this test, since they are pulling the baby's DNA they can USUALLY tell the sex. The good news in all of this is that everything came back Low Risk. =)

I never saw this report. Instead we were told by the doctor that everything was low risk, then he put the results in an envelope and mailed it. As soon as it came in, we ran it next door to our neighbor's house as she was now in charge of having the cake made with either blue or pink icing inside. Then we let the party planning begin!

We are a football loving family over here. One of the first things we taught Kenzie to do (at least one of the first things that always got a lot of "aws") was to do the signal for a touchdown. It is adorable. Still is. We knew immediately that we had to have a "Team Blue" vs "Team Pink" playoff. We had the most adorable invites. I would post a picture but they have a lot of personal info on them so I will refrain. I will tell you though that they looked like football tickets. I have never had so many compliments on an invite.

Our poor neighbor has held this secret in for over a month. Today we finally saw the finished cake that she had worked so hard on, even making Publix redo it... twice. This morning. On the day of. I knew it was a good idea to send a perfectionist to handle the cake. =)

Our decorations were super fun. I spent quite a bit of time making a lot of them. =) Pinterest could get a person in trouble.

This thing took a while but I was super proud
The final tally before the big reveal. Looks like Team Blue had it all along.

What's a football party without a tailgate? We didn't have your traditional "shower" type foods and instead opted to have an all out tailgate complete with pulled pork sliders. That food went pretty fast. We actually have very little left. Weird because we usually have a ton left after a party.

Then it was time to cut the cake. Our poor friend that had been in charge of it was so very ready. My dad had even attempted to buy her off earlier with a $100 bill. She held on. Like a vault that one. I still have no idea how she did it. For a month.

I can't even begin to describe how nervous I was. I don't even know why. I would have been happy (read: elated) either way. I had this idea that I wanted a boy... but I just KNEW it was going to be a girl.

Blue!!!

Now that is one very excited and proud Daddy

Steven grinning like a fool, me crying, and Kenzie wondering how on Earth she ended up in this family... Seems about right.

If I had to pick one picture that captures that moment... this is it.
Our party was SO much fun. We are so thankful for everyone that could be there to celebrate our little boy with us. I can't believe we are getting ready to have a girl.... and now a BOY.  =)

Ushering in Five-and-a-half

No. Nope. Not happening. Not even close.... but it is. As of tomorrow, Will is officially five-and-a-half. Halfway to six. SIX. What on earth? Both of our kids need to slow their roll and take it down a notch. It's so crazy to think that Will is going to be six in just six short months. He will start Kindergarten soon. He is already registered and ready to go. He is growing up so fast right before our eyes and it is a happy and sad time for me as Mama, for sure. So, a short update on Will at 5-and-a-half... - Will is growing like a weed. It is not uncommon right now for people to ask me if he has grown inches upon inches overnight. We are noticing that he is catching up to Kenzie fairly quickly and some of his friends that he used to be very similar in height to, he has gotten slightly taller than them. It's just his growth spurt time, apparently.  He remains remarkably skinny. So skinny that his clothes tend to fall of of him if we don't have adjustable waists. T...

Preschool Done.... One Step Closer to MIT

So, here it is. The end of "preschool." Note: "Preschool" and "VPK" are not used interchangeably for the purpose of our discussion. In the sense of the word, Kenzie is done with "preschool" and next year will be in "VPK". Eek! That's not allowed. Kenzie's first official year in school is now done. She is one year older, one year wiser, one year more stubborn. It's crazy for us to think back that just a few short months ago we were going to her Meet the Teacher day and we were both having some major anxiety about our baby going to school. I remember the first day of school plain as day. I thought she might have some apprehension. Nope. None. I probably shouldn't have been surprised. Kenzie went in like she owned the place. There was a day that her teacher mentioned that Kenzie was one of the quiet ones in the class and rarely spoke. I'm still not sure that she was thinking of my Kenzie. Maybe I had been dropping of...

Eight is Great!

Today Kenzie is EIGHT! It's so crazy. We have an 8 year old. Only two years away from double digits. A third grader. A girl that is quickly becoming a preteen. There is only a year left (technically) until that is officially the stage we are in. Though I have to say... she acts more and more like an actual preteen every day of her life. She's too much. We often joke that she is 8 going on 28, but in all honesty, she is an old soul and often acts much older than her years. At 8-years-old, Kenzie... - Is still the friendliest kid I know. She loves with her whole heart. She hates to hurt anyone's feelings. The downside is that her feelings get hit hard when someone isn't nice to her. We have had to deal with that on occasion, especially in the last year when we had a run in with a girl that Kenzie thought was her friend but she ended up being not really nice to Kenzie in the long run. We learned as parents that the "mean girl" stage starts early. Kenzie...
